Hey guys, I was planning to disassemble my sd40ve and watched some videos of how to disassemble and all the videos show them cocking it back and dry fire after removing the magazine but mines won't do that and I was fighting it for awhile and still in the same situation. Please help

There is a real good you tube video on how to tear down Ca. Compliant sd9ve and the sd40ve

The California version of the SD9VE requires, of course, removal of the magazine. The owners manual says to hold the trigger and push the magazine safety up from inside the magwell, before reassembly.

I couldn't see any change in clearances created by doing that so I asked S&W why? The response was, "It is probably strong enough to not require that", a perfect non-answer.

In any case the owners manual should over-ride any videos out there, and it's very specific for standard vs magazine disconnect models.

y my fellow 2nd Ammedants rights American, Howdy from a little State called Texas.
Question is.... in the SW40VE..... shouldn't both sides of the "take down catches" go down together?. I Say yes. But this last break down, one side goes down, while the other side remains up.... at the least, the side is 45% down, and the other remains up....
I was able to take the slide off and disassemble it. But does anyone know what is wrong with the catches?. Thought both suppose come down evenly. Any help WOULD BE grateful......

No, they don't need to move down together. The "Take Down Catch/Barrel Stop" is held upwards by a single flat wire spring at its center (the catch has a small notch in its bottom side to hold that spring in place from side to side). The catch sort of "rocks" on that spring. Either side can move the catch down against that flat wire spring to some extent, and not necessarily equally. Both together move it down all the way. But both do not have to be down all the way for the catch to be moved down far enough to allow the slide to come off the frame.

Several companies -- Galloway and NDZ -- make slightly wider catches, which make it easier to get a grip on the catch and move it downwards. Removing the factory catch is easy - you just push the "wire spring" down with something and, with the pressure off the catch, slide the catch out sideways. But be careful, the "wire spring" can take a flying leap out of the gun and be hard to find when the catch is removed! And remember, if the flat wire spring fails or is not seated properly, or the catch doesn't move upwards properly, the slide and barrel will fly off the front of the pistol when it is fired!

I ground finger grooves in my frame like the Glocks have.

Oh if you do take the slide stop out wear safety glasses mine almost hit me in the eye, flew off my head, then bounced around the room. I couldn't find it but the cat did later on playing with it on the wood floor, GOOD KITTY.:D
