** UPDATE ON THE "COOLNESS FACTOR" IN POST #34 :)**

And it is for the coolest S&W that I will ever own! :D

I knew what the letter would say before it arrived, but that doesn't matter. It is still pegs the needle on the Cool-O-Meter.

I am honored and thrilled to be the caretaker of this beauty.

Will ensure that its provenance remains known.

Since a picture is worth a thousand word, will shut up and let them do the talking.

And no ... I am not going to fire it.

(Well, maybe just once ... literally. One round. That's it.) :)

Cool gun and cooler story! Interesting to see the RR front sight on an 8 3/8" barrel.

If Roy didn't clean the cylinder face, just use one of the chambers previously used for test firing to shoot your one round. Your secret will be safe with us. :) Enjoy!

That is a Very cool piece of hardware with equally impressive provenance.
Greene NY is just over an hour south east from where I live!

Wow, a S&W revolver that Roy Jinks owned. That's kinda like having a Model A that Henry Ford owned! Congrats and enjoy owning that beautiful gun!

Just posted in the "Questions for Roy Jinks" section, asking him about the front sight and grips. Will report back.

(Even though the grips aren't checkered, they are sweeeeeet!) :D

For an additional notch on the cool-o-meter, you might want to also ask Roy if that gun was featured in the History Channel's "Modern Marvels" series episode "The Magnum".

He's seen in the episode intro, dark suit, single handed hold, raising a M29 8-3/8" with red insert front sight, wood target stocks up into firing position (but no shot taken).

Later in the episode (time index 29:42) when he is talking about the kick, and how his 9yr old daughter enjoyed shooting it... she thought it was fun, while at the same time big men were afraid of it, he is firing a different M29 with the long tube and red insert front sight.. it's scoped and is wearing Pach's.

Thank you for this! Have not seen this episode. I think you may be right ... the gun in the opening shot could be mine. (That would definitely ratchet up the cool factor, which is already through the roof.) Note the dark colored area on the bottom left of the grip. Looks very similar to me. But the barrel in the TV show looks longer? Will ask Mr. Jinks. Thanks again!

I didn't watch the show but Gunhacker refers to 29-2 and you have a 27-2. What makes you think they switched guns?

It's entertaining, but it also packs loads of BS.

I agree that it is VERY cool and I agree with NOT shooting it. Like the rest of us, you probably have a lot of guns to shoot, that were not owned by Roy Jinks. I have been back and forth about this with some of the guns I own, some are just too nice. Shoot the guns that are 90-95%. Shotgunner

WOW, you nabbed that bit of history for $1092 &.50 centavo's? I'd call that armed robbery. Good for you, enjoy it, a lot. Take it to the range, handle it with great care not to scratch or nick it, then shoot the snot out of it. As long as you don't damage it cosmetically, it will never effect resale seeing the weapon was never claimed to be NIB.
Congrats on owning a majorly KOOL piece.
