Ran 150 rounds thru my new m&p shield 9mm 2.0 today. Federal, remington, winchester and sig. The shield was flawless with zero failures. Did notice that i had to push the magazines in quite forcefully or they would not fully engage. Other than that, the gun looks to be an excellent addition to my growing collection.

The original shield was like that also. It's a bit odd but that how they work.

OP, were you inserting mags with the slide back? Seems I've read others who have had some trouble seating mags when the slide was closed, perhaps something about the tolerance on a fully loaded mag (i'm probably off on that part). As i'm always at the range when loading, mine are loaded as the slide is open and they have been just fine that way.

With a loaded mag, the top bullet presses against the underside if the slide. That's what gives the hard feel when seating the mag. If the slide is open, that will help, definitely.

It's been a while since I shot my shield. The slide does stay open after the last round in a mag is shot, yes?

Then to the OP, loading a new, loaded mag shouldn't be an issue as long as the slide is open.

Here's a view of the underside of the slide on an OG Shield. I'd imagine the 2.0 is the same. The top round in the mag presses against that protruding rib that's down the center of the slide. That's what makes it hard to fully insert a fully loaded mag.

Once the mag spring lightens up a bit you should'nt have a problem. Leave the mag loaded for a while and that should do it.

You'll hear the same complaint from gun owners of many brands...even Hickok45 on Glocks. The push for saving every pinch of size on some guns has made the tolerances very tight. Some folks will even carry one short rather than fight the full mag against a closed slide.

Our transition training from the .38 to the Glock 23 included giving the mag a good smack when loading or reloading. I've always done that, even w/my Taurus .380, and have suffered no negative consequences.
