I do not buy many S&W semi auto pistols but Cole Distributing had a couple nice 6906's in the pile of ex-police guns, so I grabbed one. I'd say it was in 90-95% condition. Also picked up a couple extra mags off Ebay so now all I need to do is get to the range.

That's a great looking example. One of my favorite 3rd Gen S&W pistols. If you have not shot one of these before you're in for a treat..... I think you'll find it's very accurate.

I built 8 of the 6906 models during a re-certification class in 1989....all were "TDK" and "TDL" prefixes. (still have one of them)

I picked up a police surplus from Ohio in the fall. I like it a ton.

But I'm wondering if anyone has changed the hammer spring to lighten the DA trigger weight...and if so, what did you put in? SA is great but the DA could be a bit lighter I think.

I have a Wolfe spring kit on the way for mine. Probably try the 18 lb spring first. Actually ordered them for the 6904, a 3906 and my 4516 yesterday morning. Will do some partrs polishing further in when I install the new hammer springs. I should have added recoil springs too I suppose, but all three appear to have been fired very little,........oh heck, I'm ordering those too.

I love mine, bought it new a long time ago. A couple years ago, I was experimenting with Cerakote and stripped the frame and hit it with sniper gray for a 2-tone look. Since it was one of the first pieces I did, I probably didn't get the surface finish quite right and I've had some of it wear off a little back to the original aluminum, but it still shoots wonderfully well. I did put Trijicon night sights on it and the rubber Hogue grips on it. Mags are getting a little more scarce so I got some 5906 mags as well. It's been my favorite pistol for concealed carry for as long as I've had it.

Beautiful piece.
I've been putting money aside for a USP9c but busted-open the piggy bank the other day when I saw CDISales (I believe that's Cole Dist.) had a bunch of 69xxs for sale on GunBroker... I should know better than to "browse".
Robertson Trading Post has used 15-rd factory mags and some brand new MecGar mags. They also have good prices on 59xx mags if you already have +2 baseplates (they have those for sale too).
Once fully vetted, my "new" 6904 will replace an XDM 3.8 as EDC, winter edition... as soon as I find a holster for it.

Well after all of that, I think a picture is in order! :D Worn guns don't bother me a bit, if they've been cared for that is. I've actually bought a couple with wear, because I liked the look. (and the price was right)

I have a few worn guns because I don't have to worry about scratching them. Then I will carry them. I don'y like to carry my 30 year old mint guns. GARY

That's a nice one! Most of the ones I've seen in the past few years look to have been beaten to death, perhaps used as hammers or other construction/destruction tools.

69XX is one of my favorite guns. I'd been carrying a Sig P239 for the past year or so... took out my 6904, and I found I'm shooting better groups with the Smith. The grip just... works... for my hands. Short. Fat. Gives me good support and stability.

At some point, I'd like to get my hands on a PC Shorty 9 or a Recon 9. But until then... the 6904 does the trick.

You may want to research the 69xx grip recall issue. Per S&W:
"Smith & Wesson has shipped over 300,000 Third generation Pistols. We have had a very small number or reports where a dropped pistol resulted in a broken grip resulting in a failure to fire by releasing mainspring tension. Resultant testing and review have shown that a pistol dropped at a specific angle can cause a fracture of the grip."

Personally, I don't consider it a significant issue unless you're carrying your 69xx.

An updated grip will have a dimple on the bottom as pictured.

I really, really wish I hadn't seen this thread. I hadn't checked their GB listings in forever. Ruined my day off, thinking about what to do with my tax refund.:)
