The Ringo Kid???

Mr. Jarrett and his staff have a duty to the members to protect them insofar as is possible with a group of (should be) adults. Their advice and warnings should be noted and heeded. The fact that they are commenting on this issue is very significant to me.

I've had nothing but good interactions with Carl, but that is not to say that I know all or even much about him. I'm shocked and saddened to read all of this, because I've seen my spouse on the brink of death a couple of times, and I find it reprehensible that anyone would use that situation falsely to elicit sympathy, and even more so to profit from it. IF he comes here and can either refute all these allegations, or admit them and apologize for them, I think that most here would be willing to forgive. His absence or failure to address this situation will be telling.

No one knows the demons that lie within someone that makes them do what they do. I do not judge nor do I condemn but I do feel pity for one who is of such mental state that they search the internet for friendship. approval and acceptance, their life in reality must be hollow indeed. :(
I feel sorry for Ringo and hope he finds the peace he needs. Life is too short. and remember that one day one of us may very well be pounced upon by others for a mis-dead of our own.

Ce La Vie, like what my dad always told me. Believe in only 1/2 of what you see and nothing of which your told.

This reminds me of two brothers I knew long ago. Brothers, but so different.
Our football coach explained it to me simply and two things I've used since.
Of one, "If he tells you a hen dips snuff, look under her wing and you'll find the can."
Of the other, " he'd lie when the truth would do better."
Most people on this forum remind me of the first.

Aside from Ringo's character flaws, I must confess that he is a talented author of fiction.

He certainly drew a large audience on this forum for his stories.

His short stories of personal tragedy were plausible enough to hook us.

Not every aspiring fiction author could do that.

I'm not really sure what to think.
I do know that he sent me a grill set that works well with my gimpy hand and makes grillin' that much more enjoyable. He also sent me a coupla old cigar boxes. One's an old Cuban Montecristo.
And he's never asked for anything in return.
He's been very generous with gifting other forum members.
I don't believe he was being malicious in any way. Just spinning a yarn or two.

There are no certain winners in a situation like this.

the ringo kid certainly doesn't come out a winner here.

Has anyone checked to see if he has multiple accounts set up here under different screen names.

I was an admin on a surfing forum and we found a few people using several different screen names.

Not to sound flippant but ...

May I use this opportunity to ask folks to consider membership in the S&W Collectors Association?

We probably tell some tall tales, too, but when you see that logo by our name, you know that we are real people, at least real name and address, and often more things, known to all the other members.

Just sayin' .... ;)

Well said Gary.

One thing I take out of this unfortunate situation is that for the most part this forum is full of compassionate people. When one of our brethren was down and out, he was prayed for and some chose to help in other ways. One previous poster was correct, the forum will survive and while this may raise a few suspicious eyebrows in the future, I dont think one bad situation will change the way we feel as a group. I for one am proud to be a supporting member of a great bunch of friendly and helpful people.

I read every post it appears that I have been duped and it is not a pleasant feeling.

I tend to take everyone here as they come.

Anyone here that has ever asked for prayer, I have gladly done so. Anyone who will ask for prayer I will gladly do so. It's up to God to determine their validity.

I pray that Carl comes face to face with himself and sets things right. If I can help him do that, I will.

What makes y'all think his name is really "Carl"?

Well, I don't know...I've seen (or rather, read) others address him as Carl, so I assumed.

Usernames are a funny thing, on a forum. My user name is my initials, and for a while my signature line had my real name in it. Everyone still addressed me by my user name anyway, so I deleted my name from my signature. Using someone's real name does imply a higher level of familiarity, knowledge on a personal level, than generally exists with the members at large. In this case, all I really know about Carl/Ringo Kid is what he's revealed about himself in his posts, which may or may not be accurate.

I feel saddened by this. On this forum I have found many friends I've never met in person, and considered Carl one of them. In retrospect, he seemed to be a tortured soul.

However, after reading all of this, I feel used.

John, re being duped occasionally by a sad story, I think it is just part of being a Christian, by which I mean simply being one with kindness and compassion in his or her heart, regardless of religous affiliation or lack thereof.

Easy enough, I suppose, to go through life never believing anyone, never getting duped, and never showing compassion. Never being a sucker.

But what kind of life is that? Better, I believe, to live with generosity of spirit, kindness towards others, and risk occasionally being taken for a sucker.

That you and others were fooled does not reflect poorly on you. Rather, it shows that you, and your fellow "suckers," are good people.

Life's too short to sweat the small stuff, as they say.

As for TRK, I think Caje, in his comments above, put it well.:)

You did what you felt was a good deed at the time. Your karma is good. Your intentions were good. Don't sweat it. You don't have to live with the guilt of your decisions. You are a good person.
