A few years back, he made some defensive remarks about Nazis--
that not all the Germans were really Nazis and to bolster it,
said something along the lines that "not everyone in jail is guilty"
and he knew that was true, cause he'd talked to them himself.

Gave the impression of someone who'd worked a short stint in
corrections, and spent too much time listening to inmate tales
of woe.

I could mark three of the board 'badges', but I don't post any. RK is one of the reasons why.

Uh, did you read his tragedy threads?
Exactly how long did you want us to tolerate a bunch of phony tragedies that elicit undeserved sympathy?
How long did you want us to tolerate a guy that accepts money from good folks under false pretenses?
 
I'm usually not one who goes around "poking the skunk with a stick," so to speak, but I think we need to be very objective about this whole unfortunate situation and not let our emotions cloud the issue. I appreciate pawngal, Lee, and others who have brought some of these things about Ringo to light.

Many here will remember how saddened we were last year when we read of Sabrina's tragic death after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. We were sorry for Carl and shared in his loss. To make matters even worse, Carl was facing some tough financial difficulties.

From what I've been able to find out, many good, caring folks on this forum sent him some money. Now, we aren't talking about just five or ten bucks here, folks. I haven't been able to come up with the exact amount yet, but from what I've been able to garner so far, the amount is at least several hundred dollars.

It's interesting to note, however, as was pointed out by pawngal, this wasn't the first time Sabrina passed away. I noticed on another forum where Sabrina died in a tragic, weather-related automobile accident during the weekend of October 24, 2015.

There have been a few of us on this forum who have tried to get to the bottom of this mess. We found that it's kinda like peeling an onion...layer after layer...and sometimes you cry.

To be honest, I don't know how many times Sabrina has died or how many different tragic ways she has met her demise or on how many different forums. Bottom line, though, it has been very profitable for Carl.

To his credit, however, he claims that he never really "openly solicited" money from our forum members or members from other forums. He just told a sad story and the money just started rolling in. And, who's going to argue about receiving free money, right?...even though it was obtained under false pretenses.

He's whining to others that he has been persecuted by a couple of forum members. Nope. Sadly, he brought this all on by himself through deceitful means.

Like my mom used to say, "He's more to be pitied than censored." On the other hand, "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, and flies like a duck, it's probably a duck." Obviously, Ringo ain't no duck, but it looks to me like he has all the earmarks of a liar and a scammer.

We will never know the whole story but we have also never walked in his shoes. I wish him the best and hope that he finds peace. Life is but the blink of an eye and we all spend whatever time we are given in our own way.

For my trip, I will be moving to another thread that is more enjoyable.
 
A lonely person may be inclined to spin a yarn or tell a tall tale.
Soliciting prayer and accepting financial gain is.....sad.
Any community is based on trust. Our society as a whole is forgiving.
It would be refreshing if TRK stepped up with a heartfelt apology, a honest explanation and a promise to pass any monies received to a worthy charity.

Mr. Jarrett and his staff have a duty to the members to protect them insofar as is possible with a group of (should be) adults. Their advice and warnings should be noted and heeded. The fact that they are commenting on this issue is very significant to me.

I've had nothing but good interactions with Carl, but that is not to say that I know all or even much about him. I'm shocked and saddened to read all of this, because I've seen my spouse on the brink of death a couple of times, and I find it reprehensible that anyone would use that situation falsely to elicit sympathy, and even more so to profit from it. IF he comes here and can either refute all these allegations, or admit them and apologize for them, I think that most here would be willing to forgive. His absence or failure to address this situation will be telling.

Ringo's stories probably were based in his life events, just embellished a bit.

He had some very interesting experiences and the stories were entertaining. His canned food threads were very informative.

I never was a French model! Never been abducted by aliens. Do not wear foil head wear either. My wild stories are intended as jokes, and I think most folks see them that way.

I have no great wisdom to impart about Ringo.

This is the way things are on the WWW.

What's the not so old saying; "I read it on the internet so it must be true."

He did seem lonely and to have more bad luck than anyone I've ever met.......and I found the Spanish(?) pen pal/girlfriend thread a bit strange........................maybe "A Bridge to Far"

If all the above is true and he accepted money from folks here........ no sympathy left......

A lot to be said for groups like the NE Ohio Bunch...... I can vouch for about 3 dozen or so members here..........."They do exist" ......... the rest are a figment of my imagination!!!!! Well accept for the "Big G"

I've met the Big Gorilla (and a couple others). That first one should be all I need for here . . .
