On another thread earlier in the week, I brought up the idea that maybe we needed a thread on the 2018 ncaa tournament - from the regionals this weekends, through the super regionals next weekend, and then through the College World Series. At least a couple of you liked the post, so I thought I would give it a try.

My Mississippi State Bulldogs (#2 seed) play Oklahoma (#3 seed) at 11:00 am today in the Tallahassee regional. We will have a tough time making it Omaha, but after what we have had to deal with this year, I am thankful we made a regional. On the other hand, our in-state arch rivals, ole miss, have been playing well, and have an excellent chance to go far. They are a well-deserved national seed, hosting a regional in Oxford, and assuming they win their regional, they will then host a super regional next weekend. Our other major state university, the University of Southern Mississippi, will playing in Fayetteville regional in Arkansas. We like our college baseball down here.

I am not a frequent poster, and will probably not be able to keep up with the tournament as much as I would like due to some projects I am involved with. So, if we have some College baseball fans here, chime in and keep this going. With 16 regionals across the Country, I hope we have some interest.

The Bulldogs are down 5 after 2.

Pilkington is getting rocked by the Sooners and he's already approaching 50 pitches.

I'm still pullin' for MSU.

We tie it up, 5-5, then Oklahoma goes up 7-5, and then Rowdy Jordan hits a 2 run homer to tie it up, 7-7. That's a great name for a baseball player.

Rowdy being rowdy with the bat.

Ohio State/South Carolina starts now. They are evenly matched.

My other local favorites, Morehead State and Wright State have their hands full with Clemson and Stanford respectively.

The Vegas boys favor Oregon State to take it all.

I just like college baseball so good luck to all you fans.

Ohio State up 1 to 0 in the second inning, according to my espn app.

I think Oregon State is in Corvallis - maybe we will get a report from Cajun Lawyer tonight - I think LSU is in that Regional.

I just flipped back to the MSU game.... Ouch!

Yep - epic disaster for my Bulldogs - I started watching your game.

Barring a major miracle, we will be playing in the loser's bracket tomorrow morning, with a depleted bullpen.

I think Ohio State still has a 1-0 lead (not watching while at the computer) but it hurts for Ohio State to leave the bases loaded a couple of innings without scoring.

I have some other matters to tend to shortly. I will try to check on the day's action later.

The Buckeyes change pitchers and he gives up a three run shot.

I am depressed.

I saw that three run shot, and I just saw the final score. At least you still have a couple of other teams to pull for.

Looks as though we almost have a two man thread - I hope there are some other college baseball fans who will chime in.

Texas A&M is pounding Indiana University 9-2 bottom of 7th.

Kent State up 1-0 on U of L in the 1st. Go Cards!

Plan is coming together.....:D Today beat da Beavers and then sit back and see who we play for all da marbles.....Hope that the #1 seed doesn't win the companion regional-back to Baton Rouge to host the Super Regional....win that and it's on to Omaha. Hope springs eternal :D

I hate to say this, sort of... I am not a baseball or football fan...
BUT I do live near OMAHA... only a few miles from the Sacred Grounds of College Baseball... I am throwing out an invitation to all college baseball fans... come and join in the crazy... Omaha is a great place to have fun... as long as the T-storms & tornadoes stay away...lol

PS local food here is amazing... Zoo is world class (think Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom... with ice cream & a train ride)

Louisville is taking Kent State to the woodshed.

There were 400 pitches thrown in the Oklahoma/MSU game. Gonna be some sore arms tomorrow.

My alma mater (UNC) won.

Oh, Go Army!

We used 8 pitchers, so that is an average of 50 pitches per pitcher - and now we play Florida State in losers bracket - the #1 seed vs. the #2 seed to see who stays alive, and who goes home. Of course, Florida State is the host team, and it would be embarrassing for them if they are eliminated in two games on their home field. I do not think they exhausted their pitching staff in their 1 run loss to #4 seed Stamford. I would have to favor them in this morning's game.

I see where both Morehead State and Wright State lost by identical scores of 4 to 3, so they will be fighting to stay alive as well. I also see where Army won and Louisville won big.

Rusty, I did watch some of the Oregon State game last night, and they looked sharp and confident. They will playing LSU later today. Cajun Lawyers's team has their work cut out for them. Southern (University of Southern Mississippi) won and will play Arkansas tonight in the Fayetteville regional - good to see the team from Hattiesburg advance.

More regionals will be getting underway today, so their will be plenty of baseball today and tonight.

Piching pitching pitching. The reason I love the college game so much is that the season is compressed making just about every game and every managerial decision all the more important. It really brings out the cerebral aspects of the game. It really makes you appreciate pitching and everything that goes into the decisions regarding pitch counts, who to throw, bullpen management, etc.
