Canned Chili

No cans......just a roadtrip....

Fun fact about me and Ann's Dari Creme...I have been enjoying thier food for a little over 60 years......good trick since I'm 59!!! Yeap, Mom and Dad's Friday date night place, so I was going there 9 months before I was born!!
Sad fact is, I'd eat that despite the fact it looks like the corncob after a trip to the outhouse :o

Yes, just north of Rt.100 in front of Marley Station Mall.

When they built the mall, they tried to buy them out and get them to move into the food court. They told mall where they could go and now the mall is just barely hanging on and Ann's is stronger than ever.

i defrosted some hamburger to make chili tomorrow.
it will take me 15 minutes to chop onions n peppers, open canned beans n tomatoes n toss it all in the pot.
what exactly are you saving by buying canned chili?
 
A lot of you guys talk like turning your nose up at canned chili, and other canned meat products.

However when the SHTF, and the cupboards start looking bare, you'd be surprised how good some of that stuff can look.

You bet homemade or restaurant chili is better than canned. If my refrigerator and stove worked, or if restaurants are open I probably will not be eating chili. It needs to be shelf stable and safe to eat even if you do not have a can of Sterno to heat it up. I still like hearing about peoples' likes in chili and survival foods. :D

I think quite a few just didn't bother to read the OP.
Canned hams, 1 lb.'ers like DAK and such along with canned fruit are finding their way to the pantry.
Pop Tarts, canned or tinned fish, packs of Lance's crackers.
Peanut butter and pickles.


Probably the biggest break I've had is losing water only once after a storm. Potable water on hand makes dealing with the salt content in the canned goods and using dried beans, peas, etc. much easier.
 
I have Armour no bean chili about once a week for lunch. A few shots of Franks Red Hot and it's good to go. I also eat Hormel canned tamales for breakfast on occasion. By no mean gourmet but I like it.

My SIL didnt cook so my BIL did all the cooking and everything came out of a can, one day when I was there he asked me if I wanted some Chilli, I said yes, he opened a can and heated it up, I dont know what kind it was but I had all I could to put it down, one think you knew for sure, when you ate at their house you would not go back for seconds.[emoji46]

wolff brand chili is orange.

if i dont have some homemade chili in the freezer, then anything that requires chili is off the menu.

i'd eat it during a natural disaster, but otherwise... no.
 
When Ike got done, our and several other communities were without power for 7 days. When power was restored about the only thing left in the pantry was hominy (I'm still trying to figure out how it got in there).

As others have said, when you get really hungry your taste buds will sign a waiver.

PS: warm beer is still beer.
