Burt Reynolds has Passed at the age of 82

R.I.P. Burt. I can't imagine how much fun they had filming some of those corny movies he made in the late 70's. With Jackie Gleason, Dom Deluise, Paul Williams, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, etc. as supporting casts, the jokes and pranks were probably immeasurable.

I think Burt Reynolds was one of the "genuine" guys in the movie industry. Terrific sense of humor, easy to get along with, and never seemed to take himself too seriously. Remember the "Cosmo" nude spoof?

He had a great life, with some super fringe benefits - like Dinah, Sally, and Loni! I know he was the envy of a lot of guys for those three reasons alone.

R.I.P., Burt. You were one of a kind, and you will be missed.

I watched his short lived TV series "Hawk" in the 1966-1967 season. Back then TV Guide listed addresses of the networks and studios so you could write for a picture, I have one autographed by him (I think).

Just saw on ESPN.com that the FSU football team will be wearing special stickers on their helmets. "Ban-one" That also brings up a country classic song "Who's gonna fill their shoes".

RIP to all the great ones and even the not so great ones.

He seemed like a guy I'd like to have had a beer or two with back in the day.
Rest In Peace

Lewis Medlock, Gator McKlusky and Sharky - glad they’ll always be around.
Saw Burt do his one man live stage show “An Evening with Burt Reynolds” where he just talked, showed clips and reminisced about his life, loves, friends and career. A great night.

My favorite Burt Reynolds movie is Sharky's Machine. The movie featured mostly Colt firearms. Reynolds had a Diamondback in the first scene, followed by 6" Python, which it seemed like pulled out of ankle holster! Later in the film, he carried a Colt 1911. If I remember right, he also pulled this gun out of his ankle at some point. Either way it was an excellent picture.

The prominent S&W used in the film was a long Model 29 .44 Magnum used by a drug dealer. At one point, the dealer shoots a car, causing the hood to fly open and the car to explode. I would love to know what sort of .44 Magnum rounds he was using!

Sharky's Machine (1981) is an excellent film. Based on the best selling novel of the same name by William Diehl (an Atlanta native), it was also directed by Reynolds.

The film did good at the box office and received mostly positive reviews.

Enjoyed many of his films and TV roles.

Here's a video clip that I remember seeing a couple times and thought that the acting was outrageously funny.

I use this one line with a tone of voice to try to make unfortunate happenings not so bad. "He's making me MAD."

A Interesting Burt Reynolds Photograph

This photo is supposedly taken from Gunsmoke, when Burt Reynolds had a role on the show.

Just noticing the the leather gear looks brand spanking new, and the revolver is obviously a Ruger single-action, probably a Blackhawk of some caliber. Gunsmoke was pretty period correct when it came to firearms...hard to believe this one slipped by them.

It just sorta caught my eye as more of a PR shot than a scene from the show.

Johnny Carson hosted Burt many many times. As a commemorative they have re-aired a few of those shows this week. Very good memories.

Was reading a recent interview with him wherein he commented that his Cosmo fold out was a mistake, but adding something like he wasn’t gonna worry about at at this point.

Interestingly, I read an op-ed maybe yesterday by some woman who is probably well known (but not to me) who thought the Cosmo nude was a seminal event in the emancipation of the female mind in that it made women realize that they could unabashedly admire the male body the way men admire female bodies.

“Hmm,” sez me to myself. “Never thought of it that way.” Never bothered me in any way. I just thought it was funny. But, hey, if it helped gals become happier in their galhood, well done!

RIP Burt.
