Hey Charles. Nice to hear that. It's a great country, i just wish it could be more like America, that would be great!
Well, I've been told that I shouldn't get political around here, but you would do well to take a cue from your neighbors in Brazil and vote the left-wing out of power. Communists/socialists are nation destroyers.
My grandfather spent a lot of time in Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Cuba, Grenada, and Belize. Ended up buying a home in Grenada and 5,000 acres of rain forest bordering the Belize River. He said he was there "on business", but my guess is he was enjoying the company of the senorita's while my grandmother stayed home here in GA. To hear him talk it was like paradise down there. He started traveling to South America in the mid-50's. He said it really was the place to be back then. I believe he said parts of Europe were still recovering from WWII so he took his tourist money down there - plus the weather was better.
He took his wife and my father and mother to Venezuela in the early 70's and my mother said Caracas was a beautiful, safe, and modern city that put a lot of US metropolitan areas to shame. They even walked to a nice restaurant from their downtown hotel - at night. Now the place is like a war zone. A tourist would be risking their lives to venture out at night now.
Anyway, I hope that the younger generation of Latin Americans will wake up and recapture the potential of countries like Argentina in the future. There used to be a time when people from European countries like Italy would immigrate there since the economic opportunities in Argentina were a vast improvement over their situations. There was even a saying coined in Paris in the early 20th Century to describe wealthy people who went on extravagant shopping sprees - "rich as an Argentine". Back then Argentina was one of the top 10 wealthiest nations in the world. It can be that way again and I hope that it one day will. Here's hoping that you and your fellow countrymen can root out all the corruption and Make Argentina Great Again!
