;) Seems like I may have gone backwards on this, but I'm missing a K frame to round out the basics - J, K, L, N (not doing an X frame, my hands barely fit the N)

Started with the L ... 686+ (swapped the goodyear's for Altamonts)

Years passed by, then October '18 happened and the next two showed up.

J ... 36-7 Chiefs Special (swapped the magna's for Altamonts)

N ... 629-3 (leaving the factory targets on)

Now, my question to you fine folks is:

Which K Frame revolver would you choose as your 1st example of the breed?

I'm likely going to have some time to decide, seeing as how the old gun fund has dropped drastically in the last month. I'm currently thinking maybe another .357 mag (because I've already got plenty of .38/.357 ammo - and I love those!) or maybe a .22lr double action. (Plenty of .22 ammo too, but only have a Ruger Single-Six for .22 revolver chambering)

Soooooooo ... Whaddya think? It's time to play everybody's (2nd) favorite game - "SPEND MY MONEY!!!" LOL

Boy, It's fun to try and spend someone else's money. The .22 is a good start, I have the Ruger single six and like it, but it's a pain to load and reload. The S&W would be more fun.

My favorite revolver is the K frame. There is no other S&W that fits me so well and points so naturally in my hand.

My 1st choice would be a model 19, second would be a 66. I still drool over these 2 models when I see one for sale.

To me they are a beautiful thing, sleek and able to shoot .38 or .357. I did own a 686+ for awhile but I just couldn't warm up to it like the 19 or 66.

I only have 2 K frames at present, a model 18 and a 66. There was a point when I had several but decided to scale down.

I do love a Model 19, but I think if I wanted one K frame for range shooting, I'd get a shooter 6" Model 14.

If I wanted a gun I could carry, then I would probly get a 2.5" or 4" M19, though one of the inexpensive HB 4" M10s is also a heck of a gun.

Honestly, I think I'd get a HB M10 just because they are so cheap ($269 @ Buds Guns), then shop for a good deal on whatever else you ultimately decide on. I already have a police issue M10 HB or else I be ordering one!

BTW, since you already got an L frame, a K frame and an X frame will feel much the same as your L frame in hand (not accounting for weight differences of course). All 3 take the same grips, including the X frame revolvers.

As for a K frame, either a model 17 for a 22 or a model 19 for a 38/357 would be my choices for a K frame.

K22 or K 32-20. And I think the X frame has a K frame grip? So you need one, it fits you. Tell your wife that you tried it on and it looked really good on you. There are I and M frames as well.

For what it is worth, here is my 2 cents. I'd stay with the .357 because it is like having two guns in one (.38 & .357). Plus, you already have a .38 and .357, so your ammo is universal. I love the 686 revolvers. I have three of them. I agree with those who suggest the Model 19 with a 4-inch barrel. It fits with conventional wisdom, and it is a classic. But, my suggestion is a 2 1/2 inch Model 66. It is a hefty little guy, but with a nice feel. Recoil is okay. It is good for home defense, and can be used for conceal carry. Since you have sensibility already covered, I say go non-conventional and get a cool toy for the collection.

Another vote for the 2.5" 19/66 if you're planning to carry. For range work or general plinking any 17 or 18 will be a fun addition.

And another vote for the 2.5" 19/66.....

What's not to like?
