Uses for empty ammo spam cans and crates?

Disposable turkey roaster for the holidays!
Why disposable-looks dishwasher safe to me.
Fill it half way with kerosene and use it as a wash for tools, hands etc.
My grandfather had in his shop a pail with about 2 inches of kerosene in it that he used as a pre wash to get most of the crud off his hands before the soap and water. He just kept topping it off as it evaporated or got used-had a couple of rags next to it to dry the hands. Today we have all kind of hand cleaners but back then you made do.....
Funny how something like this thread would jog a nice memory of my grandfather and his shop. :)

Well guys I think this is going to be storage container for cleaning supplies (the crate) and a parts bin in the garage (the can). Will have to ponder to do with the next one when I get it.

Sorry to revisit a super old thread...

I have been trying to figure out how I can open one of those an put hinges on it and re-use it for storing cleaning supplies or something. I want to preserve the cans lid by either cutting below the lid, or opening the end up and hinging it so it either looks unopened or so I can at least keep it looking like I didn't cut the top off with a can opener lol - mainly because I can't afford to buy these all the time, and not too many shops around me even carry them anymore. I think Obama screwed up the import of foreign ammo when he was in office. I was hoping President Trump would have reversed that by now

I have Appalachian roots. Frugal people, so the possibilities are endless-

Bed Pan
Slop Jar ("chamber pot" to flatlanders)
Flower Planter
Dog Dish for all 4 hounds
Feeder for the shoats
Really big bread pan (don't use the same one as a bed pan)
Cut it up so you have flat sheets for tin roof patchin
Gang plank mousetrap
Wash basin (not tha same one used as a slop jar)

Milkin Stool for the kids
Porch decoration
Nail it to the wall by the door, install kerosene lamp, an ya have a porch light. Put one on either side of tha door, an you're really uptown.

Don't thow it out- I'll think o' more stuff! :D

I'd open the can with one of those "side cutting" can openers. The kind with a horizontal blade wheel that cuts through the vertical wall of the seal - instead of a vertical cutter wheel that cuts through the flat top of the lid. When the lid is removed using one of those openers, it is completely reusable and has no sharp edges. Works great.

Man, you've been working five years on that, haven't you?

Here in Pueblo, Colorado we have the Pueblo Depot Activity (formerly Pueblo Army Depot), thousands of acres of bunkers containing all sorts of military equipment and supplies dating back decades.

A few years ago they found stockpiles of raw rubber, stockpiled for wartime needs, and sold it off (probably caused a minor hiccup in world rubber markets).

Used to have much of the collection of Nazi art, looted from European museums and family homes during WW2, and also including a lot of old Adolph's personal paintings. I understand that most of the looted art has been repatriated.

Currently they are disposing of mustard gas artillery shells, a process that has taken decades beyond all international agreements and has cost billions upon billions of dollars.

Throughout Pueblo there are what is known as "ammo box houses", made almost entirely of scrap lumber from the shipping boxes containing rockets and artillery shells. Contractors have learned to recognize these because any attempts to work on the house can be complicated by the non-standard dimensions and uneven applications of knocked-down boxes used in framing and roofing applications.

Surely there are eager buyers on eBay?
