3914 Grip question

Extrapolating from my posts above.

Hogue wood grips on a double stack 9mm would be about 36mm wide ( 26+10) and because they wrap around the back of the grip frame (with estimated additional thickness of 7mm) and are arched; they greatly extend the trigger reach on these guns.

FWIW .36mm is approximately 1.5 inches ...... the same as a finished 2x4!!!

:D

On my 3913NL I went through every grip combination possible...the factory grey Delrin ....looked good felt too thin...Hogue rubber....felt ok with my gorilla hands...but looked bad and was clingy .... Hogue grip sleeve on factory grip...we're getting closer...stippled Delrin....ummmm no...still too thin....skateboard tape on Delrin....for me it was good function but bad form....sooo...I bought a small sheet of Talon rubber grip material (yes they sell that)....and made a pattern that outlined the checkering on a factory grip and that had both form and function...yes it's still leaves it feel as thin but the Talon rubber panels gave me a solid grip feel... ......but when I put on the KSD factory replica wood grip I found my Goldilock grip...it was just right....if I still have those Talonized delrins around here I will send them along if you are interested;) .

nocents,
I appreciate the offer. My factory grips should arrive today.. I'll play around with them. KSDs are a definite option. I have them on my CS45 and like them.. I guess I am just cheap and looking at other options first.

Thanks for the offer.

Factory delrin grips are quick, cheap, and easy.

They are also the thinnest option if all you are looking for is quick, cheap, and easy.

If, however, you are looking for the thinnest option, and are willing to put forth a modicum of effort and have something you can take pride in personally, you might consider this:

469/669 Grips on 3913/3914/3953 Pistols (with pictures)

P.S. I have also installed the grey grips on my 3953TSW.
Does that make me girly?

Definitely not. The country seems to be losing masculinity in alarming amounts and, I for one, happen to appreciate that trait in a man.

However, wasn't one of the issues with renaming the 9mm LadySmith the contention that macho guys wouldn't carry it under such an appellation:)?

I remember reading somewhere that Horace Wesson wanted the LadySmith name removed from their small revolvers because they were favored by ladies of the evening. It turns out to be untrue, but it makes a good story.

I struggle with modifiers.
Are you saying you appreciate a man who is losing masculinity in alarming amounts?

I've heard that story.
I think S&W wouldn't have renamed the LadySmith pistols at all if the ladies had purchased them in the numbers they had hoped.
As it was, they had a bunch of slant dust cover frames to get rid of.
Hence the rename.

I've heard that story, also.

I would imagine, if the old LS revolvers were selling like hotcakes, no matter who might have been the purchasers, Horace and Dan would have looked the other way.

You're definitely correct. That sentence got away from me, like, y'know, um, totally. Mea culpa.

Stock grips work for me. You may notice a set of Hogues on that 3913 in the pic but those now reside in my gun room in the drawer for misfit grips.

edit: I have said before in regards to LS guns that I have a fine looking lady on my arm (my wife of course) and when I choose I also have one in my holstser! You are well advised to avoid angering either of them.

Girly guns

Here's a pair of Lady Smiths, the revolver has the matching soft sided case and the original shipping carton. I like the slanted dust cover on the 3913 similar to my 4040PD (same holster fits both allowing interchangeable EDC between the 4040 and the 3913)I don't notice any difference in my masculinity no matter which one is in the holster:D

But if you ever have to shoot a bad guy in self defence, he may be really insulted that you shot him with a ladies gun.

Very nice. I like mine, too. Both have boxes, bags and docs.

I had a 3914 years ago. Didn't like the factory grips. I got a set of Hogue smooth wood grips and it made all the difference in the world. I loved 'em.
That's one of the guns I really regret selling. :(

Another vote for factory Delrin grips with strips of grip tape added. I like a strip on the back, a little bowtie for the web of the hand, and finally a tiny bit on the front of the magazine base plate. If the gun doesn't have front strap checkering, then another strip there too.

Factory Delrins will be the slimmest grip and do not fill my hand, but the grip tape locks it in place as well as providing a tactile reference for gun alignment in hand.

So, you 3913 and 3914 type addicts, do you like the factory grips or do you put aftermarket grips on them for EDC?

The one I bought recently has Hogues on it, but that makes it as thick as a 6914 with factory grips.

I have a set of factory grips on the way, but I thought I would check with the experts before changing back to factory.

Going to vote for the factory grips. :D

All of my Ruger,Colt S&W guns but one have custom grips.
My S&W 52 don't(like I didn't need it either to my model 539).
Guess the guys at S&W designed the mod 39 gripframe after my hand.
If so,quite flattering!But I doubt it.
