So, I bought a Glock at Academy today . . .

I bought my first Glock a few months back. A M27 Gen4.

An ordinary person can't buy a new Gen 4 in this state as it's not on the roster.

So I bought it on consignment from a local police officer. LEOs can buy new just about anything even if it's off the roster.

And any private party can sell F2F or on consignment to ordinary joes like me.

Don't ask me to explain the gun laws in this state. Logic doesn't apply.

Anyway, I like it. My first 40 S&W. I don't find the recoil bad at all.

Also I recently purchased a Sig P238, so I have my 380 base covered and don't need a G42.

But I would consider a G43 if I ever find one at a reasonable price around here.

Always hated that "escort to the door", like I wasn't to be trusted!

I look it as VIP treatment at my local Sportsman Warehouse. Buy a gun and go to the head of the line VIA the special front register. Even the red Saran Wrap they put around the box...

Transactions between non-FFL consenting adult Missouri residents are done on a handshake . . .

Not in NJ...here a official PD issued permit is required for consenting adults.... And they are still brewing up more as time goes on.

Dimensions are about the same, Glock significantly lighter and overall height is less, Sig has shorter barrel and slide . . .

Glock 42 is 6 plus one, Sig 365 is 10 plus one, not exactly twice as much, more like a third again as much . . .

Sig P365 same size as the G42 .380? You sure about that?

The gun desk clerk that walked me up and checked me out doesn't see a ton of register time, and paying with multiple gift cards took the assistance of the manager. That, waiting on a gun counter guy to ask what I needed, and the NICS check were what occupied most of the 45 minutes. The return and exchange lines were 20-30 deep, and they kept trying to come in behind me. Manager finally had to block my lane with a cart and announce "Guns only in this line." Lotta men in line started looking at their wives . . . :D

That is exactly why it is at Walmart and why you can't buy ammo with the gun. The store and sporting goods mgr were members at my gun club in NH who defended the policy with a few of us.

So, Law Enforcement can buy anything not approved, and get it into the state, and then they can sell it used? Nice loophole.

Got a bunch of Academy gift cards for Christmas that amounted to at least the going price for a Glock 42. I had a 42 and traded it last year, and have always wanted another. Walked in, straight to the gun counter, “I want one of those.” Filled out the 4473 on an iPad for the first time, opened the box and checked the pistol, waited for “Proceed.” Picked up a box of Hornady Critical Defense .380, got called to the counter in about 15 minutes. Gun counter dude grabbed the pistol, walked me to front, bypassed the four registers with 30 people each in line, opened special register. I paid, he walked me out front door, handed me the sack and said adios. In and out in about 45 minutes. Totally smooth transaction. . .

I'm LTC in Texas. 45 minutes? wow. With my license the longest part was filling out the 4473. In & out within 15 minutes. Love those special checkout lanes ;)

Well answer me a question about something that has always puzzled me about this way of doing business. Does Texas have a mechanism for flagging those arrested for a felony who try to buy a gun thereafter? Is there some kind of continuous background check?

Muss, questions 53-55 and their answers should clear things up somewhat.

In my (small) mind, the Glock 42 is perfect size for a compact 380. The locked breech substantially reduces recoil and it has real/usable sights. No it is not a sub compact type, but you can actually hit with it past contact range. It doesn't like weak rounds or weak grips.

Have purchased handguns from chain stores, and if i was the ffl holder would want multiple checking also. If they want to escort me to front of store, it's their turf /their rules.

TxDPS - License to Carry (LTC) FAQs

It does to a degree, but I suspected that the report of the arrest always made its way to the governing body. What I'm wondering about is the time lapse involved between arrest and suspension, and also if, when you buy a gun, does the FFL actually somehow check on the validity of the permit, or does one wave it and get waved out the door . . .

My analogy is a motor vehicle insurance card, which on the face of it is valid for a six month period (at least in Missouri). If you miss a payment, you don't have insurance, but you still have an insurance card valid on its face but invalid in fact. Get stopped by the cops, waive the invalid/valid card, and go on your way. The invalid part only arises if you're in an accident and the aggrieved party comes calling. Of course, by then, it's too late . . .

The way I read it is that, and I may be wrong (most likely), is that if you are arrested, you have to surrender your CCW licence. It really should be someone from Texas answering these questions.

I grew up in Missouri (Rolla) and left in 93. All I know is that your present system beat the system that had back then hands down. Back then you had to get the sheriff of the county you lived in to approve your handgun purchase. That was really fun when the gun that you wanted was 110 miles away in St. Louis. Find a gun, go to the sheriff, get approved, drive back to get the gun. Fun times, NOT.

If you’re ever bored in front of your computer, do a search on “Missouri handgun purchase permit.” There’s a very interesting backstory about the origins of that system which can’t be discussed on this forum . . .

That's how it works here. You don't have to have a NICS check if you have a CCW, and you do have to surrender your CCW if you are arrested. That's how they keep CCW holder's "honest".

I purchased a rifle back last spring from Academy only because I had about $300 in gift cards. The price was actually very competitive. My transaction went very smooth as well and since I was able to use my CCW rather than a NICS check I was in and out in about 30 minutes. This was the first time I'd ever filled out the 4473 electronically.
