I was curious about US Populations. I found this link. Estimate US squirrel population could be as high as 1.2 billion. Even half that is a lot of squirrels.

I haven't had tree rat..er...squirrel for years..but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife refuses to cook them although 1/2 of what she buys just might be squirrel..she would never know..

My buddy and I squirrel hunt one to two days a week in season. We clean and freeze them until we have 50-60 ready. Some of the locals out where we hunt take every single one.

We come back with more stories than meat but isn't that what hunting is about anyway?

I think beaver is more like beef and dog is more like pork.

I don't know about that, but I do know that some people here in the states scramble them with eggs...you have to be careful though so you don't get "mad squirrel disease"...very similar to "mad cow disease"...I have not tried them though as it is not worth taking the chance on becoming a babbling idiot...although I do have to say that squirrel is my favorite wild game...delicious...I just DON'T eat the brains...

Not long after we landed in Florida, dad introduced us to pan fried squirrel w/milk gravy and mashed potatoes. Fried rabbit, too.
