What were YOUR first guns?

Although not a real gun I have very fond memories of my Daisy Power Line from the 70's
Countless thousands of rounds up north killing chipmunks, or down by the local river shooting cans and other junk targets.
That pellet gun taught me more about marksmanship than any other gun I have come to own. I actually wore it out.

My very first gun I owned was a Mossberg 20g bolt action, 1975-ish. I was 12-13. Used it for bunnies and birds in the desert around Phoenix.

Then I had an Explorer pistol, (1976-77?) the pistol version of the AR-7. Would not feed a single bullet. What a ***. My neighbor was a great old guy, Mr. Sloan, he was 80 in 1977 and he pronounced that pistol a ***, and I should buy a revolver, so I did.

I bought a H&R 949. Had that gun until 1987, I think I was 24. I think my ex sold it with a few other things I really liked. (A few years ago I found one just like it so I bought it, got to relive old memories!)

When I got an assignment to Greece in 1989, I had to store my guns (6 guns, 20K rounds of ammo) before reporting overseas. I was stationed in Alaska when I found out Greece was a no-gun country. A good friend stored them in Seattle. It was suppose to be for two years, ended up being 5+. We lost track and I can't find them. The guns were not very valuable, but they were mine. I reported the guns stolen years ago. Never heard a peep about them since.

Now I own what I want, I have a big enough safe for a little expansion and currently trying to fill my safe so full the door won't close.

Hey, a boy's got to have a dream!

My Dad wouldn't allow guns in the house when I was a kid. He wasn't anti-gun, he just didn't want any accidents. Only rifle I ever fired was a .22 at Boy Scout Camp.

After that, it was a M16A1 in Army BCT and a M1911A1 and a Riot Gun in AIT. After I left the Army, my Dad bought me a S&W Model 28-2 6" bbl. I put a lot of rounds through that revolver while I attended college. The LE agency I joined issued the same weapon (I have that one too) and I shot Master while in the Academy.

I always felt I missed out on a lot of fun, not being allowed to go shooting so when I grew up I broke the cycle. My girls are adults now but one of them told me a couple years ago that one of her fondest memories was the time I picked them up after school (guns, ears, etc. in the truck) and we went shooting.

BTW, they started out with Marlin Little Buckaroo .22 Single Shot Rifles.

The first firearm I ever owned was a Marlin 12 gauge goose gun that I paid $50 for. Bolt action, 36" barrel, 3" chambered with a two round detachable magazine. Of course it had a full choke. Great for waterfowl. Not so great for pheasants.

Very first one? An 1891 German Commission rifle in 8mm. Sold to me by a friend in high school for gas money. He said it was his grandfather's brought home from Europe.

Still have it. :D

Stevens Favorite........ when I was 10. Refinished the stock in the 80s all new springs in the 90s Metal is in the white with a coat for Renaissance Wax.

Dad gave me a Remington 511-X Scoremaster when I was 11 or 12; w/ a 3/4" 4X Tasco scope.

Still have both the first hangs over the door in my den/office. The Scoremaster is at the cabin.

First handgun was a 4" Model 10 "like my Dad's" right out of law school..... well except mine was a heavy barrel and his was a 4" pencil barrel from 1946. Mine got traded pretty quickly for a 2 1/2" 19 but I still have Dad's!!!!! :D

The gun I learned on was my brothers Remington 511. My first "kill" for the table was a rabbit with my dad's J.C. Higgins 12 ga bolt. The first gun that I can actually say I owned was a brand spanking new Ruger .44 carbine...... I was 17 and my mom had to sign for me. I bought it at The Bon Marche (now Macy's) in 1966. My dad had passed the year before. Man, I wish I still had that Ruger.

First one I actually owned was given to me at age 12 by a family friend who had been an infantry officer in WWII. It was a Walther PP 7.65mm, in a military holster with the late owner's name penciled inside the flap.

Before I ever got to shoot it a neighbor kid who knew I had it broke into our house to try to steal it. My mother sold it at a pawn shop. I never quite forgave her for that till I was much older.

Winchester Model 37 16 Ga. single barrel shotgun was my first firearm.
Wish I still had that one. Paid 15 bucks for it to my friends Dad. I think I was 14. He said, "I trust you". That meant the world to me. Good thing my Mom didnt know. Had to hide it in the basement.

AS A LATE BLOOMER (18 Y/O)

1975 I had never fired a real gun. :( Being in the right time at the right place, the police were then allowed to go from 38's to 357's & some fine old model 10's were flooding the market. I would buy 1-3 of them, drive them no more than 20-30 minutes & sell them to another LGS for a 5-10 $ profit. It kept me in beer $ for awhile in college & NEVER had 1 more than an hour. My first keeper guns: Glenfield mdl 60 with scope & brick of 22's for under 100$ @ K-Mart, Mossberg mdl 500 12ga with bird & smoothbore slug bbl, Ruger superblackhawk 44 mag & MKl 6" target bbl in that order kept me good to go for some time. (> 12 years) :)

My first was a new model 28-3...then a 27-2 six incher ..third 29-2 6 1/2inch. All three were blued.

My first gun was a Benjamin 177 caliber pump handgun. Boy did I cause trouble with that gun. I got paid back though when I purchased my first real gun which was a M-1 Carbine made by Universal. The M-1 was total junk.

My first rifle was a Savage 170 pump in caliber 30-30. Got it for my 15th birthday and it slayed many a whitetail in northern Missouri. No, I don't still have it. When my son decided he wanted to deer hunt a couple of years ago I went ahead and gave it to him figuring he'd inherit it someday anyway.

First shotgun was a 20 ga. 870 Wingmaster I bought with my own money the same year I was gifted the 30-30. Sadly, I sold that to pay bills shortly after I got married.

First handgun was a 4 inch blued Security Six bought at the local Western Auto store in the mid-70's. That one left me the same time the 870 got sold.

True first

My first gun, at age 5, was a Red Rider BB gun, a Christmas gift, from my Mom & Dad, around 1936. My first first firearm, at age 6, was a Hamilton Boy's rifle, chambered for .22 LR. It was bought and paid for, by me in 1936. with money that I earned hauling ashes, and trash to the city dump, in an old wheelbarrow. I had to build and install a missing front sight. Some folks don't believe my old true story, but, one's responsibility was assumed at a much earlier age back then. I have nether the guns, or the wheelbarrow. I do have a picture, and scale model of the wheelbarrow, and many memories of them.
Chubbo

I would like to amend my account of what my first gun was, as I had overlooked my truly first gun. Whether it was operable, is questionable, but, it was defiantly my first. In 1935 my Dad found and gave to me a side by side, double barreled, cap lock, Black powder, pistol to play with, when I was 4 years old. I had forgotten the house that we lived in then, and it just came to mind. A neighbor boy stole that gun from me me, and I never saw it again. We moved to our next home when I was age 4, so I know the date and my age, at the time is correct.

I went through a few .22 bolt actions over my learning years but, none were officially mine. When I was about 12-13 I got my first gun that was actually mine, all mine. It was a Winchester Model 12 12ga that had been in the family since the 50s. It needs new springs but I still have it and it's going strong. I also received a JC Higgins 20ga pump about the same time. It's debatable which one has put more meat on the table. I believe one of the Nylons in the late 80s pic was mine as well.

first up for me was an iver johnson .410 single shot. it still resides in the master bedroom.
my first purchase was a 59 smith 9mm. too big for my hands, so i sold it for a model 19 4".

I gt my first gun back in 1975. I traded a carburetor for a Ruger .22 LR pistol that also came with a .22 Mag cylinder. It was later stolen out of my truck.

The first gun I ever bought was my 640-1 .357 back in 2008.

My first gun would have been my crossman 760 pumpmaster. After that I moved on to dads marlin 39a. First shotgun is a Winchester model 37 20 gauge youth model that was given to me by one of my father's friends. I still have my pumpmaster and my 37, and dad still has the 39a.

Mine I still have a Sears Roebuck .22 single shot bolt action rifle. Dad paid less than $20.00 bucks for when I a kid around 1969.
One of my favorites to shoot even today. Accurate still.
Want to teach your kids to shoot with accuracy send them squirrel hunting with a single shot. You learn quick to make the firat one count as you usually wont get 2nd one off.
