The WEIG-A-TINNY seems to be the rail that is used to install an Aimpoint on the 686. This requires the removal of the front sight
I'd prefer to have the rail installed so as to retain the open sights (is that the correct nomenclature for the stock sights?)

This will require the red dot be placed further forward on the gun, and thus induce a rotational moment greater than if it were a few millimeters back. This does not seem significant to me.
this position increases the distance from the eye to the optics front. Is this a problem? I am overthinking this,aren't I? I asked this because when Smith and Wesson drills and taps they have the holes above the cylinder, in the further back position. What is the reason for this placement?
Also, the mid-position, the position that allows the rear open sight to remain attached, requires a different front sight. What sight is this? It is shown in the attached photo.
