The Movie Theatre Rant

Not only are Movie Theaters expensive these days but the movies themselves are only fair to poor (with a rare exception)! As expensive as they are I wouldn't even mind spending the money if we actually saw a quality flick!

If I go, which is seldom, it is a weekday, matinee, senior discount, during the school day, long after the film has been out. Not many problems. Won't pay the stick up price for snacks. Just watch and hope the movie isn't too long, don't want to miss any part due to a pee break.

My nephew once took a cell phone away from a lady sitting in front of him in a movie theater and he threw it all the way to the front of the theater where is splattered into a squillion pieces. Her husband wanted to make something out of it but he never got the chance. Nephew put a straight right into the middle of his face. The manager threw the couple out and gave my nephew a stern look but didn't say any thing to him.

He's my favorite nephew and my kind of guy! ;)

I understand how you guys feel.. but my oldest son and I enjoyed going to James Bond movies when he was a boy, and even now that he's over 40, and lives four hours away, we still try to go to see each one when they come out in the theaters. I'm not all that hip on the newer Bonds, (Sean Connery was the real Bond, after all), but spending time with your son that you don't see all that much anymore is priceless.

Best Regards, Les

UNCLE JACK!! Is that really you?:D:D

No movie theaters for me since my cancer diagnosis. The massive risk of some airborne illness is a potential death sentence. I can't even go to the grocery store at busy hours, and always have to take a handful of mixed antibiotics first.

If its not on my neighbor's cable (when they feel like offering an invite) or a dvd, I won't be seeing it.

Margaret Mitchell, the author of Gone With The Wind, thought Groucho Marx should have played Rhett Butler ...........not Clark Gable!

I love the movies. I go about once a week to a civilized theater that has recliners, food, and booze. I've never had a problem like the OP described.

Some movies deserve a bigger screen than you can fit in the house. GWTW is one, but I passed this time around because I've seen it in the theater a couple of times already. The bride and I watched My Fair Lady on the big screen a couple of weeks back, and have tickets for To Kill A Mockingbird for next weekend.

I love the new theaters with reserved seats and all the amenities. Its a great time to be a movie lover.

Last time I went to a movie, they were still a quarter.

Last time I went to a movie theater smoking was still allowed in the balcony section. Cigarettes were still under $0.50 per pack.

I'm afraid that the movie industry won't survive long if they are relying on me showing up and spending money.

In 1995, I went to see a highly anticipated, large motion picture - the huge theater was packed. Some bozo and bozo wife seated next to me proceeded to talk almost non-stop through the movie. When I asked them to stop talking, the bozo wanted to step out to the parking lot. I said okay, let's go. And of course he claimed-up and the stopped talking and just sat there looking like the cheesy boob that he was. 4 days later, I went to the local home electronics shop and purchased a 70" rear-projection television and and a home theater DVD and audio system. Since 1995, I've only gone to a commercial movie theater 2 times. My home theater hobby grew and I've enjoyed the comfort and quiet of my own home. No point in driving a distance, spend money on $5.00 popcorn and putting up with crowds and morons.
