Been 24 hours since the Orthene treatment....hasn't fazed them yet.

The 617 is doing its job on the bees.....second shot about 10ft away..... surprised myself!

Can't see where its hit.... but it went down....still working its legs, may live to fly another day.

ETA: took 12 shots at about twenty feet to get the next one....he's hammered.

You do know that when Jeb and Jethro were shooting the flies off the front wall they were penalized for accidentally shooting bees?

Flies ain't in season yet.... plenty of red wasps though.

The bees were flying thru safe shooting lanes...need some shot shells to safely shoot the wasps. Pawpaw used to have what he called mustard shot 22 shells, it was crimped on the end. That's what I need for wasp control, not sure if they are currently manufactured?

Closest I've come to lighting matches, is making the white fur fly when shooting at Q-tips...

I use Amdro on the mounds, and broadcast it from a hand spreader. It has worked for me better than anything else I've tried. ( Now I'm NOT recommending this to anyone, because it's so dangerous, but it was fun as heck for me - but I'm also sadistic when it comes to fire ants. I got a 24" steel rod and put a wooden file handle on the end - below the handle I wrapped ONE wire if a electric cord and taped off the other wire. Moisten the mound, stick the rod deeply into the mound and wait a few minutes until all the ants are attacking the rod. Plug the cord in and watch the smoke and enjoy the bar-b-que. Just never touch the rod.)

I pour corn meal on the ground and let the ants haul it away. They eat it but cant digest it. If it don't kill the nest then you just give them some more.

Insect problems used to be solved with chlordane. Then the government outlawed it. The 72% stuff used to kill everything. I built a house in 1975 and treated the foundation with 72% before they backfilled. Sold the house in 1988 when the neighborhood started to decline. Every other house had to be treated for termites except mine. Told the inspector what I'd did, and he said that should be good for another 10 years.

I like Orthene. Just sprinkle it on and forget about it. They track it in the mound and it kills everything. I wouldn't get it on my hands if I could help it, and wash them afterwards. If you want to be eco friendly just use a big pot of boiling water.
