Taking the train in June . . .

in 1981-82, my wife and i drove from our ranch north to Malta, mt. and boarded Amtrak to Chicago. it was fall and the foliage was spectacular. long but enjoyable trip. we wanted some good pizza and i don't remember the name, but it was very good. we walked from the hotel to the pizza joint, probably less than a mile. as we were walking to the restaurant there was a tall, lanky black guy leaning against a lamp post a short distance in front of us. as we approached him a small car pulled up along side and parked. a young lady got out and as she did he said , "hey babe, let's buckle up." she ignored him. it was humorous then and i still smile when thinking about it. wasn't carrying in those days and didn't feel unsafe.

Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. They have an entire German U boat, U505, on display, indoors!

Ain't no need jacking around in NYC!!!

Back around 1980 I took the train from Great Lakes Naval Base to Quincy, IL carrying a 303 British Enfield in a soft, zip-up rifle case. I had to switch trains in downtown Chicago, walking several blocks with my 303.
Try doing that today.
The only thing I remember about it, one of the conductors put his arm around me in a very friendly manner while we chatted. I assumed he was feeling me out for a handgun.
Some kid yelled out "nice rifle" while I was walking through the crowds downtown.

Hope you enjoyed your trip! I assume it was uneventful, firearm wise. Unless you found or visited any cool gun shops? Maybe you finally traded in that Glock 42 for a shield??

Just kidding, glad you're back and home safe.

...remember as a kid riding on the pre Amtrak real passenger trains...

...Texas Zephyr from Denver to Trinidad Colorado several times...

...my Dad worked on the Railway Post Office cars on the Texas Zephyr...

...I also rode the California Zephyr from Denver to Grand Junction Colorado...

...and I rode Union Pacific "City of Denver" from Omaha to Denver...
