Taking the train in June . . .

I've never eaten at a Ruby Tuesday.... Muggins knows what I'm doing (poking the bear in jest):D

I thought we had a Ruby here in town.
But when I looked it up, the only one in NM is down at Las Cruces.
We need another chain restaurant like we need more taxes.
But if you insist on just one more, I want a In-N- Out Burger!

If your at Grand Central Station, the previously mentioned Oyster Bar, and The Campbell Apartment are both worthy of a peek and serve alcohol, though the Campbell has a relaxed dress code.

Nuthin gets by me!! :o I just noticed this thread is in the Concealed Carry and Self-Defense section, not the Lounge. So forget all that tourist stuff I said, and as far as your carry, you'll do fine. I've been around NYC my whole life, and the worst that's happened to me is flashers exposing themselves on the subway.

I am yanking nothing. I have carried legally in NYC on multiple occasions. I have flown into New Jersey before with a pistol. I have landed at La Guardia with a pistol under my shirt (the pilot complimented my choice of sidearm, as I recall). I think I got it. Can I provide your daughter with the names of some very nice NYPD ESU officers in case she is ever in need of tactical rescue?

I'm curious Muss, is there something you needed to know or is this just a Q&A so you can pound your chest? It appears that you have the credentials to carry a firearm any place in the US, is that were you wanted to go with this post? It would appear to me that your goal here was nothing more then to brag about who you are and what you've done. If I'm wrong then I apologize, if not many people have a past that may include some high security and on a need to know basis.

I don't know if there is any difference between a "bounty hunter " and a regular citizen when it comes to firearms law. Don't know if they consider them "law enforcement " or not.

" Retired essential government employee " could mean almost anything, depending on who is writing it. On that statement I would never tell anyone "Oh, well you're good to go then ".

One time he said he was vacationing.... well actually said he was going to Vegas. That happened to be the very week that shooting tragedy went down.

Then the conspiracy news reports there just happened to be large numbers of FBI agents already there during the occurrence.
Muggins never did report back about his Vegas Trip....

I've got to go outside and see if that hovering chopper is med-flight or painted black.

RELAXING..... it's only med-flight!

Apology accepted. I don't crack on the dog, wife, daughter, son, cooking, prayer request, NRA, family range day, etc. posts. Think about any of the other posts that one might consider chest pounding, and there's plenty of 'em. I either like 'em or just move on without comment. Compare this post to a recent fairly famous one that a fella with a short barreled shotgun threw out, complete with pics. Exchange "you can't travel with a pistol" with you can't legally own that gun," and you've got essentially the same thread. The ones I get involved in to my detriment are the ones where sanity has left the station. I should learn to move on from those as well...

You're correct plenty of that going around but I really don't need examples! Your response is just pointing a finger at someone else. I personally don't get involved in those either but your post is most definitely in a different level, your not talking about, range, dog, or unicorns. We are into a level of security that most people don't have and I'm not sure that it is proper to discuss it in a open forum.

I've only been to New York once, but didn't have much time for sightseeing. We plan on going back someday to look around more. I get back to Chicago regularly and will be there in a few weeks. We always like riding the water taxi's this time of year and walking around downtown. My son also likes to go out to where they filmed Home Alone 1 and 3. There's a cool little Tudor McDonalds on Green Bay road in Winnetka that my wife always insists on visiting.

The only train I've ever been on was a trip from Napier to Wellington N.Z. and back again. I had met a girl in Wellington and spent a wonderful few days with her, then when my ship sailed to Napier, I just had to go back and see her, so I took the train. Memorable experience...I met a lot of great Kiwis and the vistas were breathtaking. The train had a double decker car with a glass bubbletop for a panoramic view. I remember more of that train journey than the girl!

As for taking the Greyhound, you'll meet some interesting types for sure! I took the bus from Port Charlotte to Ft. Lauderdale to pick up a car that we had bought for my son. I got into FTL near midnight at a VERY sketchy looking downtown bus station. I never bothered checking if they banned weapons before I made the trip, but since the outgoing station was in a convenience store parking lot, there was no security. And when I got to the destination, what I was packing made me feel a lot more comfortable. Since it was a major station on the debarkation end, they may have had security for embarking passengers, but I didn't have to deal with that.

Sorry Muss, if I got off topic there a bit, but your thread brought back some great memories.:)

Law abiding citizen, traveling thru the most gun repressed region in the nation...carry deeply concealed. I was an LEO in Jersey, trust me, it can't show or print. Only cops and bad guys carry in Jersey and NYC. Deep concealment. Second, most public venues, museums, stadiums etc. have metal detectors. Lock it up securely in your room or hotel safe. Good luck, be safe.

You are risking serious jail time as others have said.
Leave it at home, enjoy the trip.

I took a few train trips in Germany, most of which involved outdated couchettes or commuter cars hooked up to flatcars carrying tanks, APCs, and support vehicles. When we got disconnected in remote railyards, guards had to patrol the vehicles at ground level. My longest continuous trip was 14 hours in a C-5 going somewhere we didn't go, doing thing we didn't do, with people we never met. Six weeks later, we made the return trip in 13.5 hours. There are 72 economy airline seats up under the tail of a C-5, and the "stewardess" was a surly Tech Sergeant serving cold cut sandwich box lunches, bottles water and juice boxes.

You have a nice trip.

I know you said your itinerary is set, Muss, but if your ancestors (Grandma Muggins or others) passed through Ellis Island a trip there might be of note.

I have the ship's manifest when my grandfather and his brother processed through there in 1910.

Train travel is fantastic.

When I worked on my journalism/English degree post-Air Force I wrote a fiction story about a married couple -- "agents" who owned their own plush, vintage Pullman. They hooked up to Amtrak to hitch a ride around the country to solve a variety of crimes. I thoroughly enjoyed the research it took to write a viable and believable story. At the time (2005) there were about 150 known private rail cars in the country, and there were companies dedicated to building those classic luxury liners. My story put a modern-day spin on the 1960s tv show "The Wild Wild West."

Enjoy your trip.

I am confident that Muss knows exactly what he can legally do.

This thread should serve as a reminder that each of us is individually responsible to know where and when we can carry and when we need to lock up and put away. There is no one rule for all of us.
