Taking the train in June . . .

The "Cardinal Line" runs through Cincinnati's Union Terminal. It is worth a peek inside. (It also houses the Natural History and the Children's Museums)

If I knew when your pit stop was I'd meet you on the platform and give you a sack of Ruthie's biscuits in case you run out of ammo.

I envy you and your family the trip.

.... gonna walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. . . .
Once your on the Brooklyn side, ride the gorgeous and historic Jane's Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

No where did he say he was going to carry on the train.

Possible that he has accepted some type of legal appointment and assignment. etc

The guy is NOT stupid. I am sure he has a solid plan.

To quote the OP, "Discuss . . . "
I was just asking for clarification, and maybe some advice, but there seems to be an air of mystery about this thread......so....I'll quit trying to "discuss".

I definitely won’t be doing this:

Louisiana doesn't honor my illinois permit. I plan on going there in a couple weeks. There will be a loaded gun in my tent.

I think this covers it. Your brother’s restaurant doesn’t appear to have a liquor license, at least there’s no mention of spirits on the website, so nah . . .

See the 9/11 Memorial (have twice), and the new World Trade Center Subway Station (almost finished last time I was there).
Take a walk on the High Line elevated train right-of-way.
Look for King Kong at the top of the Empire State Building (done twice).
Visit Grand Central Station, go to the Oyster Bar there, and marvel at the georgeous vaulted Guastavino tiled ceiling(done that)
Statue of liberty/Ellis Island visit.(done that)
Circle line boat trip around Manhattan (done that).
Tour the Stock Exchange.(doesn’t interest anyone in the party but me)
Find what is left of Little Italy in China Town. Eat at Umberto's Clam Bar, where Crazy Joe Gallo got "hit".(would like to)
Have a Pastrami on Rye at Katz's Delicatessen, Est. 1888, 205 East Houston Street.(ate at Rupert’s Hello Deli, met Rupert,, considering Katz’s this time).
See Central Park/ ride Hansom Cab (been to a couple different areas, the Harlem Mear, the corner by the Chase and FAO Schwartz, and Tavern on the Green)
People watch in Washington Square Park/Greenwich Village(i people watch constantly).
Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.(this trip)
Riverside Park/Grants Tomb.(maybe)
Ft. Tryon and The Cloisters.(nobody but me interested)
St. Patrick's Cathedral(same as above)
Museums and Plays.(seeing a show, did the Natural History Museum last trip)
Aircraft Carrier Intrepid.(done it)
See a Yankee game.(done it. Seeing Cards at Mets this time)
Toy Store FAO Schwarz used to be fabulous, have not been to the new version at 30 Rock.(done both)
Bring your high-limit credit cards and have a great trip.

In NYC, every major attraction has security with metal detectors. They have zero tolerance for infractions of their gun laws, which are among the strictest in the nation. I also imagine Amtrak would frown upon CC. My daughter is an attorney in New York. Want her contact info? Maybe you're yanking our collective chain?

I am yanking nothing. I have carried legally in NYC on multiple occasions. I have flown into New Jersey before with a pistol. I have landed at La Guardia with a pistol under my shirt (the pilot complimented my choice of sidearm, as I recall). I think I got it. Can I provide your daughter with the names of some very nice NYPD ESU officers in case she is ever in need of tactical rescue?

I like Amtrak. Traveling by train is enjoyable in my opinion, as long as you are not in a hurry. Much less stressful than other modes of transportation.

Enjoy your trip.

Well, that's what you get when you tell an OCD NYer to "Discuss" NYC. I'm a just gittin' warmed up. ;)

Yeah, Nick's got a liquor license, and a bar with stools.

LPD256 - We had a nice train ride from London to Inverness except that almost none of the dining options were available except "2nd degree burn-inducing black pudding".

Conversely, the worst trip of my life was a sleeper back. Constant stopping and jerking, and late to boot so we barely made our plane.

I like the trains on the continent much better, especially over the Alps! But I've never again tried a sleeper.

Someone mentioned inter-city busses - been on 3 times, got sick 3 times.

Never thought about a traincation. But I like it. Flying sux.
