In 2010 ingmansinc posted about his pickled eggs and I gave his recipe a try -

ingmansinc:

I’ve never had pickled eggs so I tried your recipe the same day you posted it. I sterilized the jar, put in the apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, red beets, onion rings and garlic. I then cracked a dozen eggs into the mix, sealed the jar and set it aside.

The questions are: How long before the eggs harden into their normal shape? The ones I used just sort of fell apart, and now the liquid is all dark and thick. Do you use fresh or older eggs? Shouldn’t I have sterilized the jar or maybe I shouldn't have sealed it? Am I missing something?
Needless to say, they didn’t turn out.

This is my most recent attempt. MUCH better! (Psssst… the missng step in his recipe was to use peeled, hard boiled eggs.) :D

I like mine with vinegar, Bay Leaf, pickling spices, Red Onion and jalapeño .
Sterilize the jar? Say what?
And you drop in peeled, hard boiled Chicken Apples!
But you know that now!
Oops, forgot Garlic.
I like to drop in several peeled cloves.
You can speed it up by heating everything except the eggs up to a boil, cool a little,
Put that big spoon in the jar, heat sink!
Pour the mix, then add the Eggs.
Cool a while, top on, then into the frig.

I have a friend that was making a huge batch of them for an upcoming gathering. She put all the eggs in a big jar and started adding the ingredients. When she reached under the sink for her gallon jug of vinegar she accidentally grabbed a jug of ammonia and dumped it on the eggs. BTW she is a bit loony.

Yikes!

Bet that'll burn yer innards!

What? You have to use hard boiled eggs? When do they get hard? That's funny.
I tried making meringue cookies and I couldn't get the egg whites to become meringue let alone have peaks. I don't know what I did wrong but I failed at making any cookies.
