Watches...your favorite go to and why, pic with gun or knife up to you.

"The very fact that watches
migrated from our pockets to our wrists was because American G.I.s needed to
overcome the problem of watches falling out of their hands and into puddles
during the trench warfare of the Great War, for example." Marvin Menke, Hemel Watches

Yes, the Volli has G10 scales. I find it to be a good size for pocket carry, and a useful blade length (just under 4.5" closed with a 3.25" blade). The scales are very comfortable and do provide good grip. The clip is unobtrusive and the knife controls are ambidextrous. I'd recommend this knife to anyone, its been fantastic for me.

And no, I unfortunately missed the VS opening at the mall near Calgary haha. This trip was just to our local downtown area. Although the Guess store my daughter took me into had some big pictures of their current spring models and WOW. Va va voom. Made me want to book a trip to Spain!

Thanks. That handle sure looks like horn. Surprised it's G-10. I don't clip knives to my pocket, as they work loose when seated and can fall out. And I don't like the feel of the clip in my hand. I removed the clip from my Benchmade 710.

Sorry you missed Doutzen Kroes and Candice Swanepoel at the Calgary mall. You can see a video of that on YouTube. I'm afraid to post it here, although they're fully dressed.

I don't know who models for Guess, but VS has never had a Spanish model, to my knowledge. But Sara Sampaio is Portuguese. She's a noted poker player on TV as well as a model. Their other models with Portuguese names are Brazilian.

That Volli knife intrigues me. I may look for one. My son has a Benchmade with a tanto blade. It's too "tactical" for me. But the Volli has a very nice classic look and appears to be very comfortable in the hand.

BTW, my son, who's Spook 76 here, cut off the head of a Copperhead snake with his knife.

Your Citizen watch looks pretty good, too. Seems a very solid value.

Here's my 547 and my freebee Rolex. Wasn't exactly free tho. I received it in 1984 after winning a 9 month company wide sales contest. Wore it just about every day for the next 30 yrs. Retired in 2014 and I believe I've worn it twice since then.

How do you like shooting that 547?

The pros and cons of the 547:

Besides being a great looking revolver I really like the balance of the 4" vs the 3" 547. The weight aids in offsetting felt recoil and the case extraction is really neat.

The downside is the gun is getting a bit too valuable to shoot so it doesn't see much more action than my watch. :(

I find the clip is very unobtrusive both when clipped to my pocket, and when in hand.

I have four automatic watches, the Citizen has its advantages so far. I haven't really even worn it yet and its still reading, vs any of my others which need to be set just about every time I put one on. I don't wear one while working but grab one after I get home, usually have to reset the time. So, the eco-drive has its merits imo.

Or, maybe all my others autos are just junk!:)

So, my son is officially moving out of the house. He enlisted last spring just before he graduated high school and in typical bureaucratic fashion, the gov't just contacted him and gave him a departure date. He flies out on April 27th for basic, my little buddy is leaving. I wanted to give him something he could use and apparently they frown upon a recruit showing up with a S&W M1917 so I figured I'd give him a watch as its on the list they gave him. He decided on a Casio G Shock  (probably because a friend of his who is actually going through basic right now recommended it). This is what I got for him, and figured what the heck I'll get one too so we can synchronize before he goes and be watch buddies!

Same thing, solid all the way around. I don't know how they sell them for this price.

I'm running it in and after a month or so I will have it regulated if it needs it.

It has the 8L35 movement which is high technology, equal at the least to high end Swiss movements.

Going to give my 1982 Sub Date 16800 to my daughter's husband when they get married. I needed a high end black dialed diver in the rotation, so Marine Master it was. Been wanting one for 20 years, the 023 comes with sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel, so the die was cast. Hardlex crystal kept me from it since the 001, ceramic bezel was icing on the cake.

Next up, Sinn Arktis II on fine mesh.

Basic training to do what? Not sure how Canadian Forces train. Surely, Army, Navy, and RCAF must all have their own training programs? Do you even have a Marine Corps or naval landing forces?

Is Canada still involved in Afghanistan? I've read about a couple of your snipers who made remarkably long range kills there.

As the father of a combat veteran who saw intense action, I understand your concern for your son. Best wishes to both of you.

Sweet........just can't bring myself to spend $1000 on a watch....been using the Seiko automatics divers watches since about 1990..... the SKX007K2 about $230.

got a similar 22mm solid link bracelet on Amazon for my Seiko SKX007 ...... $60 w/ free shipping. (316L)

Army. Yes they have different training for different branches. He signed up for three years, and has a couple of ideas about what he is hoping to specialize in. But I imagine his mind might change once he's been there a while or they may steer him in their own direction. I honestly don't know a lot about it.

Glad you got one of these bracelets. Unbelievable quality and a remarkably affordable price.

That said, if $1K is too much, you REALLY wouldn't want one of these. :)

I know this thread is a little old but wanted to share. I broke my buddy's fake Rolex when we were in high school. It was a gold-colored Date Just or something, can't remember exactly. Its always nagged at me and since I am finally making a trip east to visit him next week I figured I should try to make amends.

I can't afford a Rolex with the prices they are today. Should I buy him a replica to replace the one I broke? Decided no, a reasonable quality watch is better than a cheap knockoff of something else. I bought a Citizen Eco Drive Pro Diver a few months ago and have been pretty impressed with it so I decided to go with another just like it.

We are both big fans of Steve McQueen movies, so I bought the watch today and took it to a jeweler to get it engraved in the spirit of the Cooler King.

Here it is, its no vintage Sub but I hope he will appreciate the effort.

If you happen to be a Steve McQueen fan, I hope you will get it.

I don't wear a watch and the only time I care much about time is when I go out on a ob. Then I usually just buy a cheap digital watch, take the wrist band off and use silicon to glue it inside the front of my hard hat.

To me, wrist watches are just something that will hang up on stuff, and get scratched up. Plus, when someone ask what time it is I can take off my hard had and use it to shade my eyes as I gaze up at the sky and then give the exact time. It really amazes people, especially at night, when I do it with the position of the stars. LMAO.
