I-1639 took effect on July 1st which requires training before you can buy or transfer a semi auto “assault” rifle. They do not define “assault” rifle so it is accepted that the law applies to all semi auto rifles and shotguns.

This not a debate as to the absolute stupidity of the this law. This in an FYI to help you with the training requirements.

At least one gun club that I know of is offering the training for free. It’s a two hour course after which you will receive a certificate. A gun store in Renton is offering a two hour course for $50 after which you will receive a certificate. The following website offers the same course for $20. It’s an hour long after which you will receive a certificate and a wallet sized certificate. The certification must be completed every five years.

RifleClass.com | I-1639 Basic Firearm Safety Class | Entirely Online, 1-Hour, $20

I have not taken the course yet but will. I know of a few that have. You cannot start the video and walk away. There is a short quiz every 15 minutes that must be accomplished before watching the rest of the video.

I know of four FFL dealers that recommend this online course.

As usual, the State of Washington has rushed another law into effect leaving much to interpretation. But as I read and understand the new law, the above video satisfies the law as it is written.

here is the training for free. Free 1639 Training | Sporting Systems

I do business with Precise Shooter and this is what they direct their customers do.

I got 2 AR-15 stripped lowers 2 weekends ago to delay this BS at least a little while. It's the Red Flag pre-emptive **** that is obviously unconstitutional that pisses me off.

Now, if someone feels the need for ANY training for ANY reason, I am all for it. I took RSO training because I could.

I've done some research on the Initiative for work, so I can't really discuss my conclusions until some later time. I'll probably never be able to post my actual/honest conclusions here, as I can't think of any way to make them consistent with Lee's rules for language, etc.

Note that the definition of "semiautomatic assault rifle" (a completely made up term of no actual meaning whatsoever) in RCW 9.41.010(25) is a subcategory of "rifle" as defined in RCW 9.41.010(22), which refers to a rifled bore. As such, it cannot include a shotgun. You can check this link RCW 9.41.010: Terms defined. (<i>Effective until July 1, 2019.</i>) to get to those definitions as codified from Chapter 3, section 16 of the Initiative.
