I'm down to one gun I'll never shoot.

Kenny:

That is a beauty. And I'm with you in the "do not shoot that one" camp.

Shoot (a little holster wear, an action job and non original stocks):

Don't shoot (pristine and too hard to clean):

Nothing against guys who want to shoot everything they own, but from my experience in shooting a bunch of different 3.5" 357's they all pretty much shoot the same. I get no different joy the nicer the finish. As a matter of fact, it is the smoothness of the action that elevates the shooting experience, and often times that comes when shooting one of the more well-worn guns in my shooter collection.:)

Both beautiful guns you have there.

That's my only 3.5" M27, or .357 Magnum.

I have pistols I really enjoy shooting. I doubt that I'll ever shoot all of them.

This is Steve McQueen's GT40. It recently fetched $11,000,000.00 in an auction.

If it was mine I'd drive it - a lot.

But I'm not going to shoot my .357 Magnum. :D

Not to hijack the thread, but one of my top 5 dream cars is an original GT40 in the Gulf Racing paint scheme.

*drool*

Now back to your regularly scheduled revolver thread.

;)

Man, that engraved one is gorgeous!

I kept an unfired after leaving the factory 27-2 3 1/2" blued beauty as a safe queen. Traded it for a super scope years back. The guy offered for me to shoot it at the range with him. I hesitated, then said no. Figure that out. He loved the gun, but picked it out of choices to shoot. Hated to see that one go, but it sure made a good friend very happy.
Solomon might have said; a time to shoot, and a time not to shoot.

I'll keep mine until I die. LOL

Then I won't be here if it ever does get fired. :D

If I die before a good friend it goes to him and he's going to shoot it.

Sure glad my cancers gone. ;)

Well my "S" 3 1/2 incher could be the 'shooter' twin to yours. Her number is S 1245XX (1954-55 I think). Cannot figure out how to post photo YET but it's not a good pic anyway. Finish is about 70% and the number on hers stocks do not match the firearm. sigh But one heck of a trigger ! .. .. ..

Roy Jinks said mine was 1955 or '56. I picked '55. :D

It didn't ship until 1963.

Did Roy give you any color as to why a 5-screw pre-27 did not ship until 1963?

I'm quoting a comment from the previous owner.

'Years later I picked up a truly flawless unfired, original finish blue 3-1/2 incher in it's gold box, diamond checkered walnut Magnas, shipped December 1963, according to Jinks, with a S/N of S150152. He thought my gun was shipped late for it's number, as others in the same range shipped in 1955 and 1956."

If I am not mistaken, there were a block of serial numbers from the 55 era that did not ship till much later. That is why you cannot go by the date chart for that period. 63 seems excessively late

I can relate... I have 2 model 66's. One a no dash 2.5 un fired, and a 3in Ashland un fired, that I dont think I'll ever shoot.

I have this idea in my head of me and my son (now a year and a half old) on the firing line shooting both of them.... some day they may get shot.

I have 'more than a few" guns that I've never shot and are still "as new in the box"............ but each of them has a 'shootable" counterpart that gets carried and shot.........

the anib guns are there as backups in case the shooter grade ends up in the dreaded 'evidence locker" or is lost in a tragic boating accident !!!!!!! That's the story I've told my wife and I'm sticking to it. :D

That's a good story to stick to. :D
