New Midway Movie

The trailer looks more like a video game than a movie, but then, nothing with Woody Harrelson in it can be all bad.

May be worth a look, but not till December.

Don't be so sure. It could be like the Pearl Harbor movie of a few years ago. That was painful.

Man, that was my exact thoughts when I read the thread title. That Pearl Harbor movie pulled 30 inches of vacuum it sucked so bad. It's like the producer and director thought "Let's not let history get in the way of spinning a "B" movie fictional yarn".

Actually, I sort of liked, Pearl Harbor. A nice romantic tale, and it had Kate Beckinsale.

Kate was pretty. But the way they butchered the whole Pearl Harbor deal and especially the latter part of the movie where they showed the flyboys from Pearl going on the Doolittle Raid just ticked me off to no end. That is a great insult to the real Doolittle Raiders. I much rather Tora Tora Tora over this abortion of a movie (Pearl Harbor).

Admiral Woody?? That’s some type casting...

An environmental/anti-war activist with constant legal problems. I can see it now:
Carriers and aircraft running on hemp biodiesel
No meat, sugar or flour on the mess deck
An oxygen bar on every ship

Chester Nimitz must be rolling over in his grave.

What was wrong with the original?

Hollywierd can't make anything original these days!

Well, since the Battle of Midway actually happened, this is the one complaint that would not occur to me. From all I’ve read, this isn’t a remake, it’s a movie about the battle.

In view of the battle’s importance, it’s actually unfortunate how little attention Hollywood has paid to it, and the naval war in the Pacific in general.

I suspect it’s mostly due to cost associated with the heavy equipment up to the carriers; a lot cheaper to have soldiers running around with rifles on land. The CGI takes care of that these days.

With the revisionist history now being pushed by the Hollywood supported educational system today it wouldn't surprise me if the movie portrayed the US as the aggressor and cause of WWII. Reparations now owed to the poor oppressed Japanese military.
