I just scored what I consider to be a very clean Model 60 (no dash stampings on the crane or frame). Grips are 100%, very faint turn line, clean cylinder face...looks to only have been fired 3 times, no scratches or dings...everything is tight and the screws haven't seen a screw driver. It came with no box or papers, and I may have paid a little too much for it at $495. but I really like it. It's a birthday present for my girl of 12 years. I have an equally clean Model 36 no dash that she shoots very well and enjoys on the range making steel ring at longer distances so I wanted this for her. In stainless, it'll hold up better being carried. My 36 is more or less a personal collection gun that I shoot occasionally and carry now and then during the summer months. Would someone be so kind as to age the gun for me? I posted a pic of the serial number. I guessed at which forum to go in...it's post pinned barrel but has a hammer mounted firing pin. Thanks everyone...ps, it's an accurate little .38!

Gentlemen-

I THINK he means the gun is for his GF, not a 12 year old daughter.

But if an anti gunner, media person, or some student assigned to research gun control reads that OP as written, you can bet they'll assume it means a daughter! More drama that way...

I think a clean M-60 for $500 or less is reasonable. I'd prefer to pay $450, but a bit more for a pristine example isn't bad.

Sorry everyone, I should have clarified...my GF of 12 years. :)

What'd you do: get a long term lease on her?

After 12 years, most women would want marriage.

On the other hand, maybe avoiding marriage makes some relationships last longer!

Is one or both of you Aquarian? I can sort of see how that might work, for Aquarians.

You got a fair price and a nice gun. I have a 36 also. But it's the only gun I have kept over the years. It was my first Off-Duty gun in 1978. I would like to put it away and replace it with a Model 60 in 357Mag.

Many years ago, I let my GF shoot my Model 36. I warned her it had a lot of recoil and to hold it tight. She still cussed me. ;)

I have that 357 Mag Model 60-8.
The 357 kicks too much, so I load it with 38 Special 20 to a box high powers! Now this load is acceptable.
The 2 inch barrel allows a huge flame and blast!

Texas Star,

For example, I don't want to be married and he doesn't want either.

To my mind, it's a waste of a lot of money, a waste of time to prepair all stuffs and I think you don't need to be married to prove your feelings.

Maybe some of you will be shocked, sorry.
By the way I respect people who think it's important.

I was not confused by your having a girl of 12 years. However, after 12 years of girl status, I might question the wisdom of giving her a gun. Really like M 60's.

I bought a model 60 in May of 1971, for $96.00, when I joined the PD. I still have it with the box, receipt, and other paperwork. Great little gun and its been all over the country with me.

You were able to find a 60 back then!!?? I'm guessing you bought it from a LE distributor/outlet. The 60 was THE primo gun in the 70s. I had 2 and people were very jealous. I also have the modern day 60 LadySmith in .357 and it's nowhere near the gun the original 60s are, IMO.

P.S. Had a chance to buy a 3rd 60 at a show for $450 but the seller was difficult, barely allowing me to handle the gun and not allowing me to check the timing. I passed it up: I don't treat folks that way if they're looking to give me $.

This is one of the main reasons why I don't go to small gun shows these days. Everyone is an expert on how to handle guns except me and sees fit to "offer me advice" (), which is generally curt, and often incompetent too boot! The other reasons are the overwhelming presence of just plain junk that has almost nothing to do with guns and shooting, and the sky-high prices. :(

I feel better now! :D Sorry for the drift.

Great looking little Model 60! I too remember those days when Model 60s were unobtainium. Then, a few years later, along came the 2-1/2" Model 66 and it took that problem up the ladder another rung - and then the 629! It was a fun time, back then, but I didn't realize it like I do now. :D
