Walmart bans “Short barrel ammunition”?

I just returned from my local WM store within the hour. The same ammunition is on the shelves as always, and at the same prices as always. Nothing was marked down. No one was at the counter when I was there, so I couldn't ask about future ammo sales plans.

I just came from my local Wally World. No markdowns on ammo, and all the .357 Sig was gone.

When I lived in Twin Falls there was a giant cat fight over a WM coming to town. All the usual Mom&Pop whiners, doom and gloomers, and Chicken Littles did their best, but one fine day there it was - a big new Wal Mart.

I went opening day, because I figured everyone hated it so much it would be empty. I couldn’t even find a parking place.

I like WalMart. An oil change is $19.98 with no BS. I’m sorry to see them backing away from some ammo sales, but its their right.

That's strange. I live in Texas and my WM that is usually full
had only a few customers compared to normal and no vehicles at the gas stations. I think WM will lose the hunters who gas
up there. I bought only several items, and tomorrow will get
me a rewards card at a new major Grocery Chain. I can't think
of anything I need that will make me continue to shop at WM.
Gasoline is the same price at the other location. I always
carry concealed inside all stores, only open in my vehicle.
I consider WM's policy change their right, but there are no
chains on my feet. I stopped buying from JC Penny and Sears
before their problems here in Texas too.

I refuse to patronize any store that gives in to the gun control
bigots. To get quality self defense ammo WM did not usually
carry it anyways.

Next they will stop selling automobile parts because people
die in car accidents. I also read the CEO's statement regarding
encouraging Congress to pass legislation and I resent it.
If they want customers not to carry in Texas they need to
post 30.06 signs on every entrance to their stores and if
not at the gas pumps they need to post 30.07 signs at every
entrance to the parking lot. They can't have it both ways and
still get my business.

While Walmart may take business from some mom and pop owners, at least here Walmart pays their employees (AKA my neighbors) significantly better and provides better benefits than mom and pop owners ever did. Still lots of boutique style stores popping up and making it too. And yeah, Walmart took some grocery business away from Kroger and Hy Vee. Oh, wait, they weren’t from here either.

What I do know is without manufacturers willing to make firearms and ammo, and without merchants willing to sell firearms and ammo, our second amendment rights are meaningless words on a piece of paper. The anti-gunners know that too. That's why CA is attacking the ammo supply chain.

Walmart has/had 20% U.S. market share for ammo sales. With that big domino falling, there's no telling what the unintended collateral damage will be. Kroger already announced they're joining Walmart in a "no open carry" policy. If Walmart, a Fortune 1 company, caves to the anti's, what chance do you think little guys will have.

Wal-Mart doesn't have 20% market share for ammo sales because they're good at it, or because they contribute in some way to it. They have 20% market share because they're the nation's largest retailer--more stores, in more locations--and because the rest of the market is so fractured.

I would look at it this way--80% of ammo sales are serviced by everybody else. Online retailers, other big-box stores, and your LGS. Even if Wal-Mart decides to stop selling ammo entirely, that 20% will simply go elsewhere. Even better, without Wal-Mart's incessant lowballing of frankly substandard junk ammo, there'll be more room for local gun stores to actually compete on price.

Wal-Mart divesting itself of gun sales is not the end of the world. It's not a harbinger of doom. It's a tiny piece of its overall business model, that's not as profitable as other areas, and that they've shown zero interest in actually serving.

I like Wal Mart’s tire store. Being the parent responsible for eight tires on cars I don’t drive, Wal Mart is the easiest place around to roll in a wheel taken from a car on the side of the road and get a cheap tire mounted within the hour . . .

I just hope the online sources don't use this as an opportunity to raise their prices like Cheaper Than Dirt did when the last ammo shortage happened. The law of supply and demand could have a huge effect on this decision.

I'm sorry, but I buy ammo and firearms from Walmart. Most of the time, they have better prices and selection than the other places in my area.

No need to say you're sorry about where you shop for anything, nor do you owe anyone an explanation as to why you shop at a particular place.

I just looked at the clock on my computer. As of 5:56 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, it's still a free country.

IF they really want to show their social conscience they should also stop selling alcohol and tobacco.

WalMart is a private business, their monkey, their circus. If they chose to stop selling guns that's their business. My issue with them is taking this beyond their individual business decision by their CEO sending a letter to Congressional leaders stating:

"We believe we have been doing our part to make the country safer," McMillon said in the letter, which he addressed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

"But Congress and the Administration need to do their part as well," McMillon said.

He noted there were "multiple bills before the House and Senate that address the issue of gun safety," and that they "are worth examining."
The company specifically cited stronger background checks, removing weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger, and said that its worth debating "the reauthorization of the Assault Weapons ban."

"We believe it is time for action on these common sense measures,"

Well, like it or not, Doug McMillon is an American citizen just like you are, and he has the same Constitutional right to write letters to Congress that you have.

As I mentioned earlier, we still live in a free country here. All of us are afforded the same right to express our opinions to our elected representatives.

And also our opinions about those who encourage Congress to further encroach on our rights.

We even have the right to boycott them and encourage others to do the same.

Ain't freedom grand!

Tonight, Tucker Carlson, in his opening segment, provided a cogent analysis of this decision. A must watch...

Just a suggestion for those of you who have no choice. Use their pickup, safer than shopping in a gun free zone, and force Walmart to hire more employees to pull items from shelves. Most other items can be shipped to you by Walmart.

We use Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly, and Aldis for food. For other items a range of stores, and Amazon. We find many items at Big Lots for prices the same as Wally World, and do not have to stand in long lines. We now have a Harbor Freight in town, as well as a Northern Tool in Fayetteville. We really have no reason to give Walmart any money.

BTW the meat is terrible at Walmart, but Piggly Wiggly has great sales on fresh cut meat. Last trip we bought a NY strip for $5.99 on sale.

I have no problem with a business seeking profits.

It is really why we are the strongest and most powerful Country in the World.

There are already gun stores that are more than willing to get you a good deal on ammo.

I have no problem with it either, but when it comes down to where I spend money I consider my bottom line, not theirs.

The meat is indeed third rate at Walmart, and the produce is iffy much of the time.

I'm looking for alternatives to buying the items I do from Walmart. It might be inconvenient and it might even cost me a bit more, but it's worth it.
