Food Dropped on the Floor?

We're thinking of changing his name to "Hoover".

How do you handle food dropped on the floor?
Say you are making a sandwich, and drop a piece bread, meat, or lettuce on the floor.
Pick it up, wipe it off, use it, throw it away, or?
My deceased FIL used to say " Well that landed butter side up, so good to go! "
And yes, was just making a meatloaf sandwich, and the piece of lettuce hit the floor, went on the sandwich!

It mainly depends on:
1. How clean(or not::eek::rolleyes:) your floor his.
2. How hungry you are.:D
3. Is there anymore food?:D

If the dogs don't snatch it up, I throw it away. Floors are NOT clean.

My wife used to eat stuff dropped on the floor. I asked her if she would mind if I cleaned the dishes with the floor mop. I think that cured her of it.
I read an article in the newspaper a while ago that said something along the lines of kitchen floors have less germs than kitchen counters.

Ah, here we go:
I'm a Doctor. If I Drop Food on the Kitchen Floor, I Still Eat It. - The New York Times

Food Sanitation is a recent concept.

Food Sanitation is a recent concept.

Some will throw out any food which happened to drop on a flour that was likely mopped within a week or even month.

These same people will pick up a hot dog dropped in the grass at a cookout and brush it off and eat it.

Sounds like situation ethics to me ....

How much food do you drop on the floor before it reaches some critical mass that you can't afford to just toss it out and get another?

What's the next step? Fishing food out of the trash?

That's the other thing my wife doesn't get. She'll lay food right on the counter instead of on a plate or cutting board. And never wash the counter.
Dang, Telecaster, maybe you guys better divvy up the chores differently? She gets taking out the garbage, shoveling snow and mowing the lawn, etc., and you handle the kitchen....:)

It all depends on a few things.
1. What fell on the floor? Expensive meat, cheese? Wipe it off and eat it.
2. Are there pets in the house? If there are hairs on it, it needs to be valuable meat or cheese to clean and eat it.
3. Unless you are starving, all else gets pitched or fed to the pack.

My lady makes my sandwich on the bare counter and it drives me nuts. I don't know why, it just does. I used a paper towel to make the kids sammiches and hers also. I don't think the counter is clean either. And I clean it with Clorox cleanup. Still not clean though somehow. Weird, I know....

When I am in the kitchen I usually have three dogs just waiting for something to hit the floor. I bet they get to the food before I can bend over to pick it up.
These days the floor might have less chemicals/pesticides on it than the food has on/in it.
I have to say butter, jelly, or peanut butter side down is a real bummer. It's hard to blow dirt or hairs off when that happens. LOL

It always lands with the jeiiy or peanut butter side down, they should make counter tops a few inches higher.[emoji1]
