Step right up for rocket surgery here!

You can avoid a lot of stupid and frustrating restaurant workers by not eating at fast food places. Go to a restaurant that charges 50 bucks for a meal and the waiters and waitresses are usually a bit more intelligent. You have to wonder how intelligent people are who eat fast food in the first place, its not very healthy but yes, I eat fast food also.... cause its CHEAP!

Let me start by saying there are some very good teachers but, keep in mind that most of the people who chose Education as their college major graduated in the lowest 25% of their high school class. After a few iterations, you have the dumbest people who went to college becoming the teachers of our current generation of students.
And, even idiots go to grad school and graduate with advanced degrees. They come out believing their idiotic graduate theses are valid and they get employed as school system administrators where they enact their "advanced" ideas. And we go downhill from there.

Lobo: Mr. Sowell is an incredibility brilliant man who has a unique insight into many of the problems we face today. As best as I can tell, he isn't at all happy with the state of education in the U.S.
Its well worth the time to look this man up and read his comments on our world.
He's another quote of his and one of my favorites.

So what's the big deal? I had similar experiences 20 years ago.

My wife is a teacher - a good one in fact. However, whatever she tries to do is overruled by Administration.

Right now there is a shortage of teachers in our area. The fact is that word has gotten around about all the stupid stuff the Education Departments are doing, plus the fact that an educated person can make a lot more money in other fields, without the stress.

Kids aren't getting dumber. They have been dumb for a long time.

You live in Southern Nevada too?

Wait! Wait Wait!
I'm positive I'm missing the OP's point, but I got stuck on this...

What "...fast food franchise..." has armed security?

Sorry!
Couldn't help myself!
:D

In Pueblo, Colorado just about every public venue of any kind has private security. Fast food joints can become homeless camps, especially in bad weather. The public libraries employ armed security and have massive surveillance camera systems inside and outside (hundreds of people leave their children there all day, every day). Guy who used to deliver my newspaper got carjacked at 5:00AM. I think the local guard companies sponsor booths at high school 'career days' events.

Time to go. My neighbor and I usually cover each other while we check the mailboxes about this time of day.

I once paid for my order at McD’s with a 2 dollar bill. The manager was promptly called and was told that I was using counterfeit money. Rather than calling the proper authorities he asked me if I had any other bills, so I gave him a 5 and he returned my 2 dollar bill, along with my order. I just left shaking my head..........

Same thing. Tried paying with a $2 bill and cashier said I was using counterfeit money. She called the manager over and the manager complimented her on being so observant and said she was right is not accepting "fake" money. Don't you just love the younger generation!

Well its all A-OK cause the uneducated young man is only making 15.00/hr how do you expect him to do both math AND pick up others trash.

He obviously decided to put his focus on trash details not math details.

I had a pistol on lay away at a local shop and was picking it up. My balance owed was $110.00. I handed the young lady 3 $20s and a $50. She laid the money out on the counter and the called a young guy over, and explained what I owed and this is what I gave her. The guy added it up to to her and said it was OK. I mean, how hard is it? This wasn’t an adolescent, probably in her mid late 20s.

I will often add change to cover the "cents" part of a transaction. My experience is pretty good as long as the cashier enters the tendered amount correctly!

Of course, we are assuming they were taught how to count somewhere along the line.

When I was in High School I worked for JC Penney, in the shoe department.

Not only did we have manual cash registers, we also had a till for pesos in addition to dollars, but that is a different story. This was in El Paso, back in the early 70's, and the border was wide open in those days.

A common price for many shoes was $12.99. You would ring up the $12.99, also manually add the tax (.65 in this case). Also common was having a customer pay with a $20 bill.

You would say, while handling the money: "That's $12.99 plus .65 cents tax for $13.64. Here is your change, (penney) 65, (dime) 75, (quarter) 14, (dollar) 15, and a five makes 20."

I don't even bother trying to make t easy for clerks these days, trying to give them pennies and such, since 99.44% of the time you are going to end up with the same hassle that began this thread. Sigh.
