Back when St Helens blew and filled the air with ash and there were no masks to be had, people were making their own out of coffee filters. They worked pretty well IIRC.

YouTube has numerous videos on making home-made masks, some designs are very clever. My favorite one is made of a single sheet of paper towel and two rubber bands (plus a paper stapler) and takes about 20 seconds to make. It looks like it would be very effective and of course cheap and disposable.

Paper towels? Where? :)

Some group around here is making them, Use two layers of prewashed cotton. Ill ask Mrs to make me one out of old briefs! Heck already has the elastic to hold it on!!:D

First the Govt says do not wear unless you are sick, Now the say wear one. Well fine tell us how to get one??
Can snot go 6 feet or 27 feet?

If you've ever ridden motorcycles in colder climates, you might have one of those thin under-helmet balaclavas. A friend converted his: cut off the top and you're done.

I did the same with a cotton beanie. I cut off enough of the top fabric so I can get it over my head upside down, and then pull the elastic hem up over my nose when needed. Much sturdier than that paper-based stuff that tends to rip (at least my attempts did).

I do look like a bank robber.

With Fauci recommending everyone wear masks, you won't be able to tell the GG's from the robbers. Might be the ultimate disguise for the BG's. Hiding in plain sight.

When I entered junior high in Virginia, many years ago, when we were all issued our first jock straps, one of the gang said, "Ah! A Japanese nose warmer!" We all laughed knowingly but, as for me anyway, I did not have a clue as to what the joke was until about twenty years later when I first went to Japan.

Since store bought masks are unavailable and if the needs arise I pulled one of my old Nomex fire hoods out of my old gear bag.
I'll put that over my head down around my neck then pull it up over my nose. Helped on the fire scene so it should help me out here! They always came in handy during the winter too!

A lady in my area will give anyone a N95 mask, but if you want more than one she charges $5.00 each for them.

The Mask

doublesharp - that's sharp. That's what I said to use all a long if
you don't have a Mask. Farmers and Cowboys used them for
ever.

Oh, I forgot must people don't know what a Hankey is now a days.
They cough/sneeze into their elbow now.

I carry a Hankey everyday for just in case!

The Best to you, and be Safe out there. Wear a Mask,
Wash Hands often, and have Situational Awareness to
what is going on around you.
