I purchased my first brand spank'n new S&W revolver right after I saw an inspiring article in "Guns & Ammo, or some such magazine. I don't know the year exactly, but S&W were supposedly making 3,000 4" barreled 625-6's in 45 colt, labeled as a "Mountain Gun". Mid 90's is about as close as I can get to guessing when it was.
I went to Tilford's Guns in Louisville the very next day, and asked Jack if I could still get one. He looked it up and said "Yep, I can have it here in 3 or 4 days."
So I ordered one. I'm still not sure how I was smart enough to order one that day, yet dumb enough to trade it off some 10 or 12 years later. I mean I got my money back & then some in the trade, and I carried it deer hunting, atv riding, and woods walking a lot! But the winds changed, and I suddenly needed a 1006. (which I don't have anymore either, but I still have the 1076 KSP I got in that trade)
The closest I've come to replacing it is a 25-5 (45 colt), and a 625-6 (45 acp). I'm keeping them both, but I sure miss that Mountain Gun.
