When I went to the Liquor Store in January to stock up (I actually saw this crises coming back then) I had to take a picture of this $40,000 bottle of Scotch! When I asked one of the guys who works if anyone has ever bought a bottle - he told me they actually sold the first two!

I had to take a picture! Thankfully I do NOT like Scotch at all (lol) - I could NEVER develop a taste for the Peaty flavors I suppose. I
am a dyed in the wool Bourbon man - just figured some might get a kick out of the price!

I've tried many Scotches and have even attended Scotch tastings. I gave up trying to like it! To me Bourbon is the taste I gravitate too. Once in a while a nice Rye or a little Tito's with Olives. I've never been much of a Wine or Beer Guy either. If I drink 5 or 6 bottles of Beer or a half dozen glasses of Wine in an entire year its a lot. Bourbon is the Go-to of choice for me. To each his own........

I'm a Jack Daniels man at heart.:D but I do have a bottle of Logan.:D

And. Then there is this.:D

Anyone who is a JD Guy owes it to himself to get a bottle of the JD Sinatra Select!! Yes, it's pricey but ohhhh so good!! I nurse the bottle for a year at a time. My Son knows that's my "standard" BD gift and that has been my BD gift from him every year for the last 4 years. :)

We don't touch the hard stuff, but hubby and I always return to Switzerland with Jack Daniels as gifts for our friends there. It is universally popular there.

I'm not a guy but the next time I see a bottle of it I'm going to splurge for it. I've had several pours of it in my travels in and around Nashville. Good Stuff!!!

Scotch is my favorite, especially the Single Malts. Lagavulin is my top favorite, but only the 16 yr old, I did buy a bottle of the 8 yr old one time, (near half the price) and it was terrible. Harsh, and no where near the flavor of the 16 yr old.

It's funny but I really don't "go" for the flavour of the single malts. Maybe it's a good thing.

Maybe you can compose a Fado for our closed liquor stores?

I can't make a ryme. Even if my life depended on it.:o

And when I sing the dogs howl.:D Better let them lie.:D

Edit. On the other hand our shooting ranges were closed and competitions suspended for the duration.:(

Ah! I love my Country. You can buy booze in the supermarket, and those are open.:D

In the US, it goes by the State. In some States, maybe the County. We used to have State run Liquor stores in my State of Washington, but several years ago, we voted to sell liquor in retail stores, like supermarkets. Highly taxed! California was that way 50 years ago. Beer and wine were available in markets as long as I can remember. When I turned 21, we still had liquor licenses in Washington State. We had to have one to make purchases in a State liquor store.
So, no shortages here!
For the record, I like Bourbon and Scotch. I like the smokiest Scotch procurable!

Best,
Rick

Even though Balvenie is my "house distillery" in the Speyside, THAT is one I won't ever have, I'm afraid. If I knew I'd die tomorrow, there is a 30-year Single Barrel going for around $1200 that might tempt me ;)

In the meantime, I stick to somewhat more affordable versions, although still not cheap.

The really young versions of the heavily peaty ones are indeed a bit overwhelming. Ardbeg just released a 5-year-old that sounds intimidating from the reviews.

On the Lagavulin, the 16 is great, but held back a bit by the mass-market presentation: only 43%, chill-filtered, and artificial color. So I go for the "real thing" these days, the annual 12-year-old cask strength release, which is neither chill-filtered nor colored. It's a "limited edition", but not really that limited in availability. Great stuff.
