OMG - I have been drug off into the dark side. Black guns!

Way back when Glocks were a new item, and in the news for the ridiculous claims of circumventing airport security, I got hold of the Gen 1 G17. It was the only Glock model available at the time.
I was shooting IPSC at the time, and some guys were loading 9mm to make Major. I did too for awhile.
Our hot/humid months made shooting that slick-framed 17 like holding a wet bar of soap. No one I knew had any idea about stippling them. Did see some bike inner tubes stretched over some of'em - helped a little.

Also found that 17 would seemingly feed and shoot almost anything - recall running 'culled' reloads through it that no respectable 9mm would accept.
The novelty wore off and it eventually went away in a trade. I always had an issue with the grip angle, the foreign feeling trigger and the slick frame.

Scan ahead many years and they're as common as Coca-Cola.
I picked up a used LE trade-in Gen 2 G19 just to keep handy and to serve as a truck gun.
Ran through drills and paces, and no surprise, it excelled.

I liken having a Glock much like owning a nice Estwing framing hammer.
It does what it does very well, but not much likelihood of being a prized possession and having actual pride of ownership.
- You ever been to anyone's house and they say "Hey, lemme show you my new hammer?" ;)

Very well said, I especially like that last sentence.

Bought my first Glock in early 1990. It was a gen 1 model 17 and I lost count of the number of rounds it has seen. Shot GSSF for years and it has never had an issue.

It now has the company of 7 other models and is still the most often to go to the range with me. I have not modified any of them as they work just fine from the factory.

I've been a gun owner for 53 years. Never had a black gun. While not black, I bought this recently. A Taurus 92, 9mm. My first 9mm. I love it. I want to say, "where have you been all my life?"

For every Jack, there's a Jill. Enjoy your Jill in the New Year. Don't forget extra magazines; never enough.

BTW, anybody notice how many of the savvy posters are on this thread? Excepting me, of course. Happy New Year to all!

The Glock is a tool, and nothing more. But, it's a tool that works extemely well. I respect them, and I like them, just not well enough to shell out any money for one.

I have a friend who has a Model 20 (10mm), and I hope to acquire it when he decides to trade it away. I have a Ruger I'd trade...

I remember the first Glock pistols I saw were being carried by our California Highway Patrol in Crestview,CA. patrol Station on US HWY 395 in the Eastern High Sierras.
After being stationed here in Bishop,CA. for many years in the past, my Wife and I have moved back here, to live out our lives.
I still do not own a Glock, and have no plans to change.
I will stick with my old 45 auto, and Kel-Tec P-11 in 9mm.

One of my forum idols falls. LOL.

Sorry Chief, I'll do better on the next run :D

I do have a classic S&W in the front pocket right now, and a very handy fixed sight 41 Magnum model 58-57 that is just starving from lack of good leather availability.

I'll try to be better, I promise :D

Would this make up for my transgressions sir?

Hopefully, I can be redeemed with some pre-war N Frame S&W goodness. The picture is borrowed, but the Reg Mag is mine :D

Thank you! Because the past few Glocks that I have fired in GSSF matches have been lent to me, I haven't really had a chance to sit down and analyze the trigger. I do acknowledge that any trigger mods have to conform to GSSF rules, and acceptable aftermarket options appear to be limited.

The smooth-face OEM trigger, I believe, would be compliant. Glock manufactured guns with two different styles of trigger--a serrated front, and a smooth face. Because they called one or the other a "target" trigger, it allowed them to skirt importation rules. The smooth trigger isn't quite as smooth as the polished metal on an S&W combat trigger, but it's pretty decent.

There are also a couple options for slicked-up GSSF-legal parts--I know Vanek makes a Gen5--but these are fairly expensive--$180-$225 or so.

Without being there, I would say it could be the serrated trigger, your finger pushing on the side of the trigger safety, or your finger rubbing the slot in the trigger made for the safety blade. Or, I suppose, some part of your finger contacting or pinching on the frame. It could simply be a matter of putting 200 or 300 rounds downrange and no longer noticing. Hell, I used to blister the right side of my thumb shooting 1911s, right up the point of bleeding.

When 2019 started I owned zero Glocks, now I'm up to 3 of them.

How do you like the polymer 80 frames? They look like a grip dimension and shape improvement as well as a texture improvement. An a reliability changes?

I haven't had any reliability issues with the P80 frames, I'm using 100% Glock internals. They feel better to me, look better to me, and in the case of the black frame/silver slide it offers a 19 sized frame with a 17 sized slide. Takes hardly any effort to complete them as well.

When I opened up this thread, I thought it was going to be about AR style rifles. Hmmm.... I do have a Glock 42. It's a great pocket carry on a summer day wearing shorts. It functions like a shrunken Glock 19. Now you've got me thinking about my other "black guns". Like my Sig P229 and Xcarry. Or my M&P 9 or Shield. Or my 325 NG. Or my Kahr 9mm. Now that I think about it, my favorite AR isn't even black, it's FDE.....

Nothing wrong with black striker fired guns, they work and work well. I carry a P365 every day, even though I have a host of other guns to choose from.
Closing in on 3,000 rds downstream, reloads, factory, 115/124/147, no ripples.

I have a Glock 20. Great gun and I won't be selling it. It fires every single time you pull the trigger. I don't need any more Glocks or any other plastic striker fired pistol. They are all the same. Glocks are great guns but they are just so boring.

I once owned a Glock 30 (45acp). It was (is) well designed, well engineered and well made. It was also very accurate and one of the softest shooting guns I've ever fired in 45acp. It was bought as an experiment to check out what the big hoopla was all about with plastic guns. I learned to really appreciate it for what it was, but I also learned that I just don't like plastic guns. Shoot what you like and like what you shoot.

SAF,
I've had a P7 for a long time...I even had a K3 with the 22 conversion(I sold that for an outrageous sum)! IF anyone likes .45 & hates GLOCKS....DO "NOT"handle & shoot a G30S!!! "IF"you do you will find a GLOCK you will love

I own 4 Glocks. I tend to buy 2 of most guns that I really like so, 2 G30's 2 G27s. My G27 is my go to...working on some transition to the G30 as my primary but for CCW hard to beat the 27. The G27s are Gen3, My 30's are Gen4. Only mods I ever do is the frame plug, night sights & Talon or other grip texture tape. Maybe a Pierce grip extension on some of my mags.

As to being Ugly., I never thought they were. I mean they are not Highpoint 9mm Ugly.

Reliability over the years has been excellent. Only issue in my experience, using older gen magazines since they seem to modify the mag follower geometry in various generations.

Also using the X-grip sleeve if one is using a higher capacity mag in a subcompact, one must be careful since an aggressive grip at the lower angle of the mag can cause the longer magazine to kant forward in the grip frame & thus at the feed ramp slightly which may or may not cause a feed issue depending on fit of the magazine & how much wiggle room there is.

Finally, on .40 Cal. it's hard to beat a pistol that one can carry 10 total rounds concealed all day with ease [G27] then at night insert either a Glock .40 cal. 13 round or a 21 round magazine for home defense.

Several years ago I was a blue steel and wood purist. One Christmas I gave my son a 1894 Winchester short rifle, he left the room and returned with an AK for me. Every since strange things keep showing up in my safes. My son is a serious Glock lover and has about every model. He is a true believer. He talked me into this G-17 and I'm starting to like it. I keep it in the hallway closet with a couple of 30 round mags. I'm not allowing it in the safe with my S&Ws, who knows what kind of pups that may produce.

The descent into madness continues.....Ladder13 called it, I have fallen....I am now the owner of (gasp) and AR pattern rifle.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. I got an email from Armalite just before the Covid stuff began regarding a big sale......If I repent, will I regain the favor of the S&W gods?

no pictures yet, they got squirreled away just before the 'peaceful protests' began. I did load up on mags and ammo, just to make certain that they would be ready if called upon.

And the sickness spreads.....one of my buddies took advantage of the Glock Blue label program and got 2 Glock 19's for his civil defense and protection plan. No pic of those....they look like any other Glock 19 gen5. He did sequential serial numbers somehow......

Its not madness. Like Ladder 13 my EDC is a Sig P365. As far as rifles, I have an M1A Socom, couple of AK's, AR's in 556 and 6.8. A 6.8 SBR, a PS90 SBR and a MP5K clone. And several others I can't think of now.

This one is my "truck gun."
