Irrational Mob Action

The cancelling corps will run into problems sooner or later. We have big cities, states, rivers, etc., named after leaders they deem racist. The latest lunacy is the abolition of terms like "master" that connote racial superiority. Our local realtor organization is banning the use of the term "master bedroom", substituting "principle bedroom". You have to be a card carrying member of the grievance mongering organization to see offense in a bedroom name. I'm waiting for some dim bulb to realize we name automobile brake hydraulic cylinders politically incorrectly. We must all be woke and not talk about master and slave cylinders.

All the non thinkers wanting name changes are going to wipe out the legacy and history of positive note.
Is the naming of a city of a Native American bad? What's bad about Peoria or Tiskilwa? Absolutely nothing.
If these children get their way probably half of all names in Illinois would be changed.

And probably 3/4 of them in PA. What would we do on February 2 every year if we couldn't have Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney?

That's already happened. The Washington Wizards in the NBA used to be the Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets. Somebody thought that was too violent or something like that, so they ended up changing the team's name.

Just an observation here:

If you were the owner of a sports franchise, and you decided to change its name, no matter the reason, shouldn't you be allowed to do so? To me, this concept is part of free enterprise.

And how would you react to those who criticized you for it?

I think most of us would tell 'em to take a hike. You want a franchise named the way you want? Start one yourself, buddy.

Stick with college sports and go back to the idea of real, honest to goodness student athletes.

But they have found offensive with
Indians, let's wipe that word into oblivion so no one remembers,

Nike, the NBA and the NFL are already canceled in Sheepdawg's doghouse. MLB is still pretty neutral, I can't see anyone being upset at the word Cardinals.

I'm half Indian or Native American whatever the PC term is. I'm not offended. Why would I? They are celebrating the warrior mentality.

Is that offensive? If so, who, exactly, is being offended?

No problem I realized my post wouldn't be well received. And yes some of this stuff is ridiculous and goes way overboard. But not all.

I don't think there is anything particularly offensive about your logo examples ( except for the swastika on the Lafayette Escadrille. Which after googling it, I realized it was used for good luck and BEFORE the Nazi's adapted it).

Now my examples on the other hand are ridiculous caricatures of Native Americans. Again speaking as a non- Native American I don't have any problems with the names Cleveland Indians, or Atlanta Braves, but their logo's are.... no other way to put it stereotypical racist garbage and need to go. I would like to see anybody defend this Cleveland Indians "chief Wahoo" logo.

Perhaps each unique instance of what is offensive and what isn't needs to be looked at and judged on the merits...and not paint everything with such a broad brush. And that goes both ways.

I can't see any reason to change "Indians" unless they are also going to change "Cowboys", but it depends on which side of the political divide you are are on if the name Syracuse "Orangemen" is insulting or not!

By the way, I've always thought Green Bay should have an NHL franchise and give it the same name as the NFL one. You know, for consistency.

That way, they could have the football Packers and the hockey Packers.

Maybe even call all their sports teams the Packers -- baseball Packers, basketball Packers, soccer Packers, and whatnot.

Who could ever be offended by that name? Seems like a surefire winner to me.

Hmmm.......My Pontiac Chieftan has a master, and a slave cylinder.
A lot of the snowflakes would lose their minds if they took a close look at the hood ornament.

And please lets not forget the other ridiculousness in the news related to sports teams: those that actually own the teams are now being shamed for calling themselves, "owners". Sports talk radio "personalities" are being hounded into not calling them "owners" any more. Not exactly sure what you call someone who owns something if not an "owner", but what do I know. I guess Mrs. Mod34 and I are no longer allowed to consider ourselves home-owners. We have put 25 alternative naming conventions in a hat to draw from - I'll let you know what we come up with!
