Another "offended" person.

Years ago our local collectors fraternity had a member that had a massive (and impressive) Nazi memorabilia collection that he would display parts of at the local gun shows.

However, I felt he slightly stepped over the line when he showed up in full SS uniform.....

One of the downsides was that the show was being held in a local civic center and down the hall there was a B'nai B'rith meeting at the same time. Ended up that we were asked to not to come back and to find a different meeting hall...

I think just being blissfully unaware of the historical implications is the flipside of bring too easily offended.

A few decades back when I was involved in Civil War reenacting, we had some guys in the club who also did WW II reenactments. They tried to recruit me for their SS unit because they thought it would be nifty to have a native German speaker who could actually pronounce the commands correctly.

These were really nice guys from all appearances, certainly not neo-Nazis, they just thought they were having historical fun.

I couldn‘t really get through to them the absurdity of asking a historically informed guy of German ancestry to put on an SS uniform on the weekend for fun and play. I didn‘t want to come across as a jerk, so I spared them snarky questions whether they had reenactors in striped pyjamas they could pretend to execute. As I said, I think they were just naive.

Then there was a thread, another site years ago, about gold plated Walther and a post said that ol Adolf would never own such a gaudy thing because he was just a simple man.

I’m pretty sure my in-laws have some family cremation remains in their closet. If I pass before them, I’ll probably end up in a nut jar on the top shelf!

Or they could mix with epoxy and cast as a family skull collection.
When morticians and bourbon mix... ya never know the things they'll say.

Most people will see anything like this as something that should have been destroyed right after the war and rightfully so should have never survived in private hands
I see absolutely no value in this stuff and all I see is the suffering and torment and destruction associated with them
But sadly in the world we live in
people will buy and sell anything for a dollar
If they came into my possession
I would donate them to a museum
They would never be in my home
The reason why so much of this stuff has survived as people sadly are opportunists and took what they wanted and brought it home
And soldiers who were there are passing away and more of these items are making there way into the mainstream as acceptance of these things is not as abhorrent as it once was
To me items like this have no place in our world but I am not here to judge anyone as there is only One to judge us all
If you feel you need these items or hold them as something special
You have to answer to Him
Not to me
Stay safe out there
God Bless,John

I wish to take this opportunity to thank the offended for setting my mind straight. I just called the State Police to come pick up this nazi marked pistol and arisaka rifle, and take them to the shredder. I seek forgiveness for my insensitive ways.

I keep a cashew can washed and ready for my ashes. WHOLE cashews mind you, not halves and pieces. A peanut can wouldn't do. That would just be .....gauche.

The OP has 62 likes and counting.

65 as of now.

That is indeed pretty sad, considering the OP was nothing more than a complaint about a complaint. I suspect it‘s the fault of the advanced average age of forum members ;)

I would personally and publicly like to apologize to Dougaz for letting the comment bother me to the point of posting this. Also, to the rest of the Forum for posting this to the point of causing such a firestorm. We are going through enough in this country...in this world. It's been a bad week here in Pittsburgh (again) and after being caught up in traffic due to people protesting still. I used to have pretty thick skin. (Had to have thick skin working for the Pittsburgh Public School District.) I'm sure all the other large cities are going through the same thing. But that still is no excuse. I should be above that and not use gasoline to put out the fire. You do not need to accept my apology and I don't expect that. Thanks

We all make mistakes. It takes a real man to craft and sincere and eloquent apology. I'd like to have a dollar for every time I made statements I had to go back and apologize for.

I for one accept your apology and in return offer you my respect.

Onward and upward
