I have an LCP Max: it works without fail with either the 10 or 12-round magazines. It is as accurate as a J-frame at 10 yards despite the longer utility-grade trigger pull. It is pleasant enough to shoot and represents a true improvement over the Grendel P10/P12/Kel-Tec P3AT/Ruger LCP/LCP-II designs from whence it sprang. The sights are good, considering. It works in a pocket holster (I have several, but the one from Simply Rugged gets the nod) or IWB (where it's essentially unnoticeable) and I carry it when dressed formally or in NPEs (where it's legal). NB: no safety, you need to put this one in a decent pocket holster if you're going to carry it that way (and, of course, not carry anything else in that pocket). Aesthetically, it's unpleasant to see and doesn't feel especially nice in the hand (perfectly fine to shoot, though - interestingly - and the 12-round magazines are an improvement for me and are all I use with it), but I didn't buy it to wax rhapsodic.
I shot a friend's early Bodyguard 2.0 and - oh wow. It fit my hand so well. It looked pretty (relative to the brutal Kellgren derivatives) and the trigger was a delight. It was somewhat more accurate than my LCP Max. I liked that a safety was available (the one I shot had it) - since OP wants to throw it in the pocket of light shorts, this is noteworthy (I'd still strongly insist a good quality pocket holster would be crucial to such carry). It was reliable (and has remained so for my friend).
Had I not already been an owner of the LCP Max and all its gear, I would have run out and bought a Bodyguard 2.0 that day (something that's particularly notable because I have been steadily unimpressed with the original Bodyguard .380s - I've shot many of them and have never thought they were even the equal of the original LCPs). But the fact is that it isn't really that much of an improvement over the Max - which works just fine for what I need. So . . . like Rammer Jammer up-thread, I'm already set.
It was only later the reports started coming in about teething issues with the Bodyguard 2.0 model. I have every confidence that Smith & Wesson will get them under control, but I've not been paying attention to recent reports as to where they are in the process. If I were recommending a gun of this sort to a loved one, I'd tell him to handle them both and research whether the 2.0 is G2G yet - but say that the Max would almost certainly be fine out of the gate.
