After 14+ years with my v.1 M&Ps....

I'm a big fan of the M&P line (and the SIG P320 line). While I have a good number of other pistols to choose from... for me it comes down to these two lines, for my carry guns.

I've long (15 years) enjoyed my M&P40 Compact 3.5", which I've had since about 2005. Late to the 2.0 party, but I've heard so many great comments about the 2.0 versions that I decided to order up an M&P9 2.0 Compact with 4" barrel. I prefer longer barrels both for the added velocities (terminal ballistics), as well as for the longer sighting radius. IWB, a 4" barrel is easy peasy.

As much as I totally love my M&P40 and M&P9 Compacts with 3.5", I think the 2.0 in 9mm with 4" barrel (which is kind of a G19 taken to an entirely new level) is the perfect sweet spot for me as an IWB EDC. (Yes, the G19 is a stellar pistol, reliable, accurate, sized just right - but the M&P and P320 have better ergonomics, feel better in my hand, and have nicer triggers.)

Anyway... any other M&P9 2.0 Compact 4" fans out there?

The 2.0 version, of course, brings with it a lot of nice upgrades to a pistol that I already loved in v.1.

I think S&W was very smart to design the 4" Compact 2.0 version around the dimensions of the G19. And for me, the M&P grip and trigger are much nicer than I've ever felt about the G19, nice as that pistol is.

So, after enjoying my M&P40 Compact for 15 trusty years, I guess this is as good a time as any to step up to the 2.0 M&P 4" Compact!

I bought a M&P9 first model back in 2007 and it quickly became my favorite semi-auto of the striker fired, polymer framed variety. Great ergos and reliability. I sold all my Glocks.

In 2019 after reading how great the new M&P 9 2.0 compact was I purchased one as soon as it became available at my LGS. It's as good as all the articles, posts and youTube videos claim. Love the aggressive texture of the grip and the trigger is very good. Like my first gen M&P it is 100% reliable. Great gun!

I agree that the 2.0 Compact is about as good as it gets in polymer guns. I have three! One I gave to my Dad and another was customized with Apex trigger and barrel along with a Vortex red dot and suppressor. The 3rd is my first flat dark earth gun...all have been great. I originally purchased 1.0 compacts in 9mm, 357sig, 40 and still have them all. I did have a G19 for a while but ultimately gave it to my son-in-law...prefer the M&P's.

Congrats on your 2.0 Compact and be ready for your inventory to expand!

As with you, all my M&P's are Gen 1. Only recently did I pick up a 2.0 Compact w/4" bbl. I like a longer barrel also. I had thought about a G19, but like the M&P line much better!

I too am a fan. I had a Gen 4 Glock 19 that I had put after market sights and a flat faced trigger on. Didn't care for the finger grooves and the grip angle although I carried and shot it a lot. I am a lefty and have been trying to switch over to pistols with ambi controls. Sold the 19 and purchased a Gen 5 Glock 45 that I like better. Also had a CZ P10-C now on consignment at a LGS. I purchased an M&P 2.0 4" and really like it so far. It takes the place of the Glock 19 with better ergo's, grip angle etc. Put an Apex Flatty in it and it now has the best striker fired trigger I have experienced to date.

I too carried a m&p 9 compact v1 for a few years. Great size and feel. I own a m&p 2.0 compact as well. Everything is great about it. Love the texture, trigger, and overall feel.

Going to throw a curveball in here. With all of that being said, although I can carry the m2.0 compact, my everyday carry is my P365 XL. With the size and weight overall you really cannot beat it from a concealment standpoint and it's nearly 5 oz lighter.

If you can get your hands on the P365 XL model, I say give it a try. Not the normal P365 as it is a bit too small, for me anyway, but the XL model.

Either way m2.0 compact is quite awesome.

My FS, Compact and Shield are all 1.0's. The FS and C have 2.0 triggers in them. Shield is stock.

My 2.0 compact replaced my G19. The Glock literally rubbed me the wrong way and I much prefer the ergonomics of the M&P. The compact is larger and heavier than I prefer in a carry gun but if you are OK carrying a G19 IWB the 2.0 compact should be fine even though it is a couple of ounces heavier.

But if you don't wear an undershirt you might need to sand down the grip a bit. That aggressive texture feels pretty abrasive against skin. On the rare occasions I carry my 2.0 compact instead of my Glock 43 I use a N82 holster that covers the grip. If it was my main carry gun I would sand down the grip instead.

Much in common. I have original P320 Compacts in .40S&W and 9mm. Each now with X-Compact grip modules and SIG flat trigger - they ARE awesome!

I love my M&P40, M&P40C, and M&P9C - all v.1. Tell me about having a 2.0 trigger in the v.1 M&Ps - I've not heard of that until now?

I had an M&P fullsize .40 and a Shield 9m/m and they were both excellent guns for their intended purpose I just liked older steel guns better so I got rid of them. My tastes started to change a little though and I was wanting an M&P 2.0 compact 4" really bad and looked for months and couldn't find one so ended up buy a Sig 365 with thumb safety and 12 round magazine. It is a DANG nice gun!

I enjoy my 2.0 Compact very much, and I used to comfortably carry a Glock 19, but I feel they're too big for me to carry comfortably nowadays. I've lost over 50 pounds in the last year, so it's not a weight issue. I think I've just been spoiled by the sub compacts that have become popular in the last ten years. I usually carry a Ruger LC9S or a Shield. I feel every ounce of those. I bought a few holsters for my 2.0 Compact but have never carried it once.

I bought my wife a 1st gen 9mm M&P target set (3 mags, hard case, mag loader and holster) as soon as they came out. She still loves to shoot it.

Many years ago, I bought a Kahr PM9, thinking I might like to carry something very small and light. Turned out to be a good pistol, but really didn't suit my philosophy of use.

Then, I bought a SIG P938, a 1911-style micro. Again, good pistol. But very small and not as capable, as a defensive pistol, as something larger with a better grip, higher capacity, longer barrel for velocity, and and longer sight radius for better aim.

For me these two very small guns are only considered for carry when for some reason it may be impossible to carry anything larger. Turns out that almost always, I can carry something larger, with more capacity and greater "shoot ability".

So, while I've thought about the P365, I'm still quite content carrying guns with 3.5" and 4" barrels, and double stack mags. So far, so good for me.

I just turned 70. Perhaps by the time I turn 80, if we're still allowed to carry pistols, the P365 may just be my first choice. I know it's a great pistol!

Having had TWO G23s, let me tell you... the original M&P40 Compact with 3.5" barrel (which I've had since introduction in 2005) is MUCH more comfortable and enjoyable to shoot than the Glock 23. I tried hard to like the G23. Fail.

So, there is no doubt in my mind that your M&P40 4" 2.0 is DEFINITELY a better choice than any G23.

I have been carrying a 1.0 compact since 2015 and like it much better than my wife's G19. I have a friend who has never been a gun guy now deciding matbe he should be and looking at guns. Two days ago I was looking at the S&W website to refresh my memory on 2.0 compact specs. I am really glad to see that when you include compact and sub-compacts, S&W now has them in two slide/barrel lengths and two grip lengths. I may have to try a 2.0 at some point.

I have really enjoyed my M&P40 2.0 compact. It fits my hand nicely and is easy to carry. No issues so far.
