It took almost 96 years

Thank you for the warning. But it's too late for me.:o I already fell from my bed while turning over. And I wasn't even 60 yet when it happened.

First I feel your pain. I fell out of bed three times recently. First we replaced the mattress, next we replaced the bed, the new bed is higher you know where this is going? Longer fall. I got a hand rail to keep me in bed.

Finally my doctor sent me for a sleep test. I wasn’t getting into REM sleep.
My body, hands, legs are moving when I’m sleeping. REM is deep sleep.
I use a c-pap machine now.

On my first fall the night stand ripped my face open, tore my nose, while the dresser tore up my leg and foot. The night stand and dresser were high five’n while I was bleeding on the floor. Since my nose was ripped open they used some king of krazy glue to put it together. No stitches.

I’m ok but watching where I sleep in the bed.

When I was 390# I couldn’t see the ground infront of my feet. My dogs leash was tangled. It was loose as a walked over it. He pulled it tight as I lifter my leg to step over it. One more flight to the ground. He walks over to me with the look did I do that. He’s such a cute lab I said nothing.

Another lesson from Graydon - Sharp cornered furniture is a no-no for me! A good friend and neighbor of my Dad, and a guy I looked up to for many years, retired, survived cancer for twenty years and was killed when he fell onto a sharp corner at home.
I also won't have any tile floors in my house - all are wood or vinyl. Anything that falls onto tile gets broken - a glass or your skull, no difference to the floor. From what I've read, falls kill too many seniors.

Graydon, I'm glad you weren't hurt more seriously, I hope you heal quickly and well, and please take the fall proofing advice given above here seriously.

I'm glad you're ok, please think about lowering your bed!

Maybe I'm weird, but I prefer my bed pretty low to the ground. I actually made the bed frame we used for years, which positioned the top of the mattress about 18 inches off the ground. Then I lowered it even more and we slept with the top about 10" off the ground for a couple of years. My wife insisted we raise it, and I've hated it ever since.

After our divorce is finalized, I'll be back low again.

After my divorce, I found myself sleeping on the floor but it wasn't by choice.:D
