I had an opportunity to turn a J frame into an N frame this week. The decision was made easier by the fact that The N frame was a model 29-2. My 629s needed a 29 to keep them company.

The Good: It is also my first engraved Smith & Wesson. The action is wonderful and most of the finish is immaculate.

The Bad: The parts of the finish which are not immaculate are pitted. Pitting appears on the right side of the frame, cylinder, and barrel.

I am pleased to have added this to my collection and would be happy to know its ship date. There is a possibility of this being my first birth-year S&W. The serial number is N21623.

Manufacture date probably somewhere in the 1974-75 range, the N2xxxx went from 1974-1977. Gun looks great, despite the pitting, which is almost lost in that engraving. Long as that barrel is, S&W should have included a rifle stock with the gun. :D

..best looking shooter grade gun I have ever seen... Most engraved Smith sit as SafeQueens their entire lives...

I'd be happy having a gun like that!!

Looks like it sat in a lined box and the lining held a little moisture. Soaking in penetrating oil, then gently rubbing out the rust with bronze wool is the best bet for mitigating the damage.
