Made a "Panic/Prudent Purchase" this evening

Was your 20 an 870/Ithaca 37 or Win. mdl 12? You said vintage. Congrats on the new gun.

This thread and sub-Forum is about ammo not guns. Wanted to be sure I had ammo when I want to break some targets.
But in response to the above request:
1937 Remington 31

The 20 Ga. is a great shotgun for the whole family, if they like to shoot trap, skeet or clays sports.

If you learn to shoot half way decent, there is always the option of taking it out into the field where upland birds and water fowl can also be taken and you will not have to carry a heavy 12 Ga. weapon , when hiking the hills for miles after quail and such.!!

Enjoy that sweet little shotgun that is a winner.

A 'case' of shotshells is 20 boxes. (500 rds)

What you usually find now for sale in stores is a 'Flat' of shotshells or 10 boxes. (250 rds)
Used to simply be known as a 1/2 Case.

Shotshell ammo can be just as hard to find in some localities as any other ammunition.
Crazy prices compared to not too long a go.
Then others have the luxury of still being able to buy $4.50 and $5/box 12 & 20 promo ammo at the present time.
AA's are usually priced more no matter what the political times are.
28 & 410 are the real wallet deflaters and beg to be reloaded if you shoot in any quantity.

Nice Model 31!

Any ammo seems to be challenging to find via retail right now.

Do you belong to a hunting club or do any sporting clays or trap shooting? Maybe there is someone their who could help; albeit, you provide the ingredients.

I've always enjoyed both hunting with a shotgun and obviously clays. Used to do a charity shoot a couple times a year, but was not 'big' into it...although I did better than most because I always enjoyed pistol marksmanship. Usually high 40's. Not bad for only going a couple times a year (3-4?).

I hope you get a chance to go to the range or club with family / friends. That's what it's about at the end of the day and hunting if you so choose. Enjoy and give a range report when you have the chance. Best, TH.

Shotgun Ammo availability

What a wonderful purchase. You will be happy for years. Buy the ammo by the case. You will be surprised by how fast it disappears! BTW - for those that find 12 & 20 ammo prices high, try finding & buying 16 gauge - as I shoot in my LC Smith sxs & Sportsman auto. It can be frightening.

Happy New Year all. Go forth and shoot. Gunpowder is the ultimate aphrodisiac.
