Took advantage of the beautiful weather we’re having in SW MI and took a few pistols out for some fun this am.

At the front of the line were these two model 41’s - the 7 3/8” barrel is from 1971 and the 5” is vintage 1965 (it had less than 100 rounds thru it). Had some new (old) magazines that I hadn’t used yet so it was time for an experiment.

I shot 10 magazines with Federal Auto Match (1200 fps) and 10 magazines with CCI SV thru both pistols. To my joy, both performed flawlessly with all magazines - 400 for 400!

And for extra fun, I had this M39-2 from 1973 out too, and talk about fun, what a day!

I’m not a big target guy, I prefer plinking down a two track any day. Also happy to report that all the bad guys were dispatched quickly and ethically! [emoji4]

Guess you ran out of Bud Lite cans..... he he he! There's nothing like a M41 if you got a winner. Sometimes the problematic ones can drive you crazy. I am lucky too! Keep shootin' 'em!

The Federal "Auto" will usually function fine, but usually most get the best accuracy with the CCI standard velocity 40 grain bullets.

You’ve got a very nice pair of model 41 can killers! The best beer can killer in my safe has a 5 inch field barrel on it. You’ll be amazed at how much difference in feel and handling the lighter barrel makes. If you ever get the chance, give one a try.

I did have one old magazine that appeared pinched at the loading end and have not been able to play around with yet to “tune” it. That one was not included in my “experiment”. [emoji41]

I’ve only shot the Federal and CCI ammo thru them along with excellent performance in my Woodsmans.

I enjoyed reading about your fun time with the M-41s and their being dependable with both the SV and HV ammo. One thing though, I read that your field barrel is 7 3/8" and I was/am under the impression that all the field barrels were 5" barrels. Were there some 7 3/8" field barrels produced?

I could be wrong on the terminology as I’m no expert. Aren’t the two barrels shown “field” and “heavy”?

The "Field Barrel" is special

The 7 3/8" was the standard length with the compensator attached. Later the 5.50" Heavy Barrel was introduced as well as the Field Barrel, some Field Barrels were actually produced from the 7 " specimens that were not up to standards. Chronologically I may not be entirely correct but only the 5" barrels were/are considered Field Barrels. As I mentioned, some were cut down from the original 7" specimens and the some were dedicated Field Barrels and had the red ramp front sight. All reports I have read have praised the Field barrel as the perfect length. Most folks have their favorites and the Field Barrel does command a premium if making a purchase!
Please do not take this as an attempt to embarras you, it's only a way for me to direct you to learn more about M-41 and expand your appreciatrion and enjoyment. I'm certainally no expert either!

No offense taken! I just know that these two are a blast to shoot and sometimes, I appreciate the details, other times I just like to have fun with them! Thanks for everyone’s comments, much appreciated!! [emoji41]
