My "LGS counterman" buddy called me from the local Academy store 10 minutes ago. He bought 2 boxes (the limit) of Blazer Brass 9mm 115 gr ball for $18 a box. The real news is that there was a line of 60 "old guys" waiting for the truck yesterday and this last (buddy says maybe 30 boxes left) bit was left over after they scarfed their lot. Maybe it's getting better after all. Joe

Around here I can typically get two boxes a day of 9mm in many stores. But not one round of .45 anywhere.
It was explained to me this way:
If you make 50-100 percent on each round, you make a lot more money on 9mm, which sells like hotcakes and weighs a whole lot less when you ship it.
There still isnt .22 around here. I did find exactly two boxes of 270 Win this week, which were $45 per 20 rounds.
5.56 is available here for .60 per round, and plentiful.
Maybe its getting better, but manufacturers seem to be making and shipping only the stuff they can make a killing on.

On a "buddies road trip" my oldest friend and I drove to Terre Haute a couple of weeks ago. We got to the Academy after noon and there was no 9 left. We did each get a couple of boxes of Remingon Gun Club 12 gauge.

We then got a couple Chick Fil a sandwiches and headed home.

Totally worth it just got get the Chik Fil A.
None of those around here. I would give a box of ammo for a sandwich most days

I went to Academy today, while wife was shoe shopping I ambled over to the ammo shelves and found a few boxes of CCI 22LR looking for a new home. I adopted two 50 round boxes of standard velocity LRN ($4.99 ea) and two 50 round boxes of Stinger CPHP ($9.99 ea). Not bad prices IMO these days, what I find online is more than twice that.

Stingers are absolutely the best, and a great catch at that price! I have been firing (a few of them) for many years and have never had one fail to ignite. My money says - but I don't have much :( - that they have a separate/special priming line for them and us that's part of the extra cost. A couple of my hideaways are .22's (G44 and 2214) stoked with Stingers.

Then once those calibers return to normal stock (meaning we quit swooping down like vultures the second it hits the shelves) other calibers will follow suit.

Of course they're focusing on their best sellers. They'd be irresponsible businessmen to do anything else.

If we want to change their production/sales habits, we have to change OUR buying habits.

Once again I have to keep saying this:

DON'T BUY....... DON'T BUY...... DON'T BUY

Quit shooting for a year if you have to.... You are only contributing to the problem of greed when you buy from these a--holes. The diamond merchants have long held back the supply and people still pay thousands of dollars for a !@#$%^g rock.

IMHO as always,
J.

The ones waiting for the truck are buying the bigger, bulk packs of the 9mm. They would rather buy two boxes of 250 rounds each for resale than those 50 round boxes.

ME TOO!!! BUT I'm 79 and in bad health and only shoot a box or two a year and have enough too last ten years. The reality is I don't think I'll ever need anymore 9 m/m. :D:D Larry

Lets hope you'll need at least 1K more. :)

I went to Academy today, a Saturday afternoon, just to see what they had. Gun case, almost empty. The rifle rack on the back wall had the security shutters down since they had nothing to display. Ammo - there was a handful of boxes of Winchester 7.62x39 and I think I saw a green spam can on the bottom shelf. A few cases of shotgun ammo. That was it.
