So I've spent a couple hours searching our forums here looking for what options I might currently find to equip a S&W M36, 3" sq. butt revolver with rubber grips. Neighbor has a Model 10 with Uncle Mike's boot grips and his works well for me.....in the M10 size. I'd like something similar for a M36. Options seem thin with UM's gone. ebay shows something for RB J's. There seem to be decorative wood after-market grips that sure look nice, but I need something that gives me cushion and positive grip. There are a lot of posts on this subject in the past, and I've tried to explore those. I'd sure appreciate any ideas of what's available now.

You can probably find a pair of Pachmayr stocks like these. If you don't mind wood, you can buy a set of J frame RB/SB stocks, or a set of Herrett's. There never was a wide variety of rubber stocks for the SB J frames.

Thank you. Guess I'll likely buy a Pachmayr. I don't see much else for square butts. Probably the smaller, "boot," version as the other looks really big. I'd look at an attractive wood grip but I seem to have slippery hands.......

If you decide on Pachmayr, you're going to have to look for older ones. I just looked at their site (they are now owned by Lyman) and they do not make a square-J grip. Good luck.

Pachys

Have bought them off Ebay new and used. You just have to look to be sure they are for Square Butts as Round Butts seem to be more available.

Have you tried Hogue? J-Frame Revolvers - Grips for Smith & Wesson - Handgun Grips - Hogue Products

J-Frame Revolvers
Models 30, 32, 33, 34, 36, 37, 43, 50, 51, 60, 63, and 651 can be either round or square butt frames. Please refer to the graphic to discern which frame style you have.

DennisT, I found the set of Pachmayrs in the above photo. If you want them holler. I will not use them again. Pachmayr also made a slightly smaller version, "Compac" I think. Not 3/8" of difference in length.

Interesting, I'm glad I got my set through Midway (IIRC) a few months ago when I did...

They do make a J-frame easier to shoot but at the expense of considerable bulk. This pretty much defeats the purpose of a compact and very concealable revolver.
