Any baseball fans here?

I only played Little League, and I love watching the Little League World Series, which is in Willamsport PA, a day trip for me and on my bucket list.

But I enjoy MLB. Long suffering Pirates fan. 1979 is a long time gone, and the battles of the late 1980's are as dated as parachute pants.

Anyway, there are some good divisional matchups on tonight

Phillies vs. Mets, I saw a few of these games BITD at the old Shea Stadium.

Yankees vs. Red Sox, I saw this once at the old Yankee Stadium in 1978.

Cardinals vs. Pirates, I saw plenty of these at the old Three Rivers Stadium.

I know some people write off MLB as an "old man's sport ", but at soon to be 54, I don't think I'm an old guy, yet.

Any other fans here, and who's your team.

I grew up playing baseball and played softball when I got older. Love the game and have been watching the college World Series the last week or so. I watch the MLB more later in the season and in the playoffs. I am a Rays fan but grew up rooting for the Braves because Florida did not have any teams and they were on TV all the time with TBS.

Played as a kid and as mentioned above I tend to get more interested as fall nears. My grandfather lived in Cincinnati during the big red machine era and was a huge fan. He either listened to the games on the radio or watched them on tv. All 168 of them every year for years. I like the game but that is a lot of baseball.

When I do watch I am a Cleveland fan even though they retired Chief Wahoo !

I'm a baseball fan. Sort of. I definitely have a team. Early seventies my brothers played Boys Club ball. Dad was the Asst. coach. head coach was a close friend of my dad's. For 2-3 years they were pretty much unstoppable. Never lost a game. Even the game where the ump was drunk, obviously biased to the home team, and changed the ground rules 3 times on the first 3 pitches until Dan O'Toole finally got away from the left foul line and hit his 4th consecutive ball out of the park to straightaway center. After that thing got out of hand and their 2nd baseman was pulled because one of the guys had finally got off shift at the mill. Apparently he missed the first 2 innings because he had to go home and shave. Against 12-13 year olds. I was only about 7 but I remember the guys, the games and the fun. But even though I wasn't playing I learned. Honesty, integrity, hard work, being part of a team, hell, race relations. These are all things that the game of baseball can help teach young people. As far as MLB? Not interested. Too much a business. And a poorly run one at that.

Baseball is my sport, college and pro. Astros are my team and have been since we moved to the Houston area in '74. I no longer watch pro basketball or football. Still watch college football. I enjoyed going to hockey games back when Houston had both iterations of the Aeros but I do not watch it much on TV. Watching the Longhorns playing Miss St right now.

Dad took me to Crosley Field in 1966 to see the Reds for the first time. I was hooked and have followed them ever since. I am an unabashed sports fan. I enjoy watching all college and pro sports (including the Premier League) except the NBA.

If I were told that I could only watch one tournament series It would be the LLWS. Sportsmanship and love for the game, team and home at its best.

Go Reds, Bengals, Buckeyes, Bearcats, BlueJax and Musketeers.

I never really played baseball growing up but have grown to appreciate it over the years. My wife and I are fans of the Tampa Bay Rays (it's a small club...:D).

Even if the Rays weren't doing as good as they are, we just love it when they embarrass the high-dollar teams like the Yankees and Red Sox!

Can I show you my collection of Cleveland Indians memorabelia? I went to a lot of games at the old Lakefront Stadium. And the ultimate fan experience was my late cousin Billy and I being extras in the movie "Major League II." What a fantasy, to be in a movie about the team we rooted for since we were little boys.

I played little league. Our fields didn't have fences. As a result, with my blazing speed, I could stretch homeruns into doubles. I enjoyed working on my defense more than hitting. I loved zipping the ball across the diamond from third base.

I grew up as a diehard Cardinals fan. Many of our greats are dying off. My favorite, the fierce Bob Gibson, and Lou Brock, a true gentleman, are recently gone. I have a couple Gibby cards in my collection.

I don't follow the game as closely as I once did. Too many strikeouts by guys trying to hit every pitch 500 feet. Players with 180 strikeouts and 20 homeruns does not make for much action.
Put Vince Coleman and Willie McGee on base and let the fun begin. A pitcher would be as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Those two once pulled off a double double steal in 1985. Each had two stolen bases on one play. How did that happen? Well, it involved the Cubs from yesteryear. I will try to post a link.

Anyhow, I still follow along a bit. The Cardinals started pretty well this season, but have stunk up the month of June. Too many strikeouts and porous pitching. But hey, the season has a way to go. There's always hope.

For me.......

Love the game, never played it, wasn't allowed to, 1950s if you didnt know someone or had mickey mantle skills you didn't get to play, as I got older I knew the game but I was then to busy being a knob, get to the 80s and I made sure my kids excelled at it, plus soccer, plus bowling, plus football, my son once came to me to play hockey, there I drew the line, always detested the game and wasn't about to have to go to rinks, became a bit of a memorabilia buff, ya know what I found out? The players put their pants on just like I do.

While I have never been a player, nor much of a fan (unless my city has been in the Series), I had a colleague years ago — a player as a kid, a big time fan, and an enthusiastic coach of his kids' teams — who said something about baseball that I have never forgotten.

He said that growing up, no matter how tense things became between his dad and him, they could always talk baseball.

That's a wonderful thing, I think.

I like watching a good baseball game more than anything else. But growing up in South Louisiana, we never had much of a home team to root for. Some people like the nearby Astros or the Braves. We used get Astros games on Fox, Braves games on TBS, and Cubs games on WGN. Now TBS carries little baseball, WGN is news and police shows, and Fox plays Rangers games now for some reason. Of course, there are the usual fans of Cards, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees.

I lean towards old school National League ball. I'd like to see the Pirates get competitive again. I wasn't around for the days of Clemente and Stargell, but I always admired them and that era. I like Andrew McCutchen, but I suppose they couldn't keep him.

I am/was a baseball fan but haven't watched or listened to a game in 2 years. The MLB politics chased me away. I wish they'd just play the game of baseball and get out of the rest of the BS.
