Gun and Mt Dew don't mix

Find any Mountain Dew drinkers ...dentist... and there will be a new Mercedes parked at his beach house. That stuff is the worst for teeth and as described for gun finishes too.

Why not soak the whole gun in Mtn. Dew and remove all the finish on the whole gun. Then the reblued patch wouldn't be noticable and you could get some other finish for the gun, i.e. parkerizing, cerakote, etc.

Suppose many know but coke is a excellent minor surface rust remover, yes for firearms and knives. Have used it many times, just be very careful and check every minute. Preferred method is Kroil soaked rag for few days, then use real copper penny to carefully rub rust off. If not deep original blue is not damaged.

I've seen damage done to a number of once beautiful firearms due to sodas, blood, salt, etc.

Literally, I will wash my hands before handling firearms quicker than I will before I eat.

It bothers me to see people at gunshows, etc, handling many times collectible weapons while eating salty chips and drinking sodas.

I'm not a collector, I'm a shooter. Over the years I've had some very nice collectibles that I sold because I couldn't enjoy using them. Oh I have a few collectibles that I still shoot. I'm very "curise, curise, curise" about them though.

I don't like seeing the pitting on my backpocket KelTec 3AT slide, but I accept it. It's clean as a pin inside, but sweat takes its toll on the finish. I knew this would happen. That's why it's a KelTec, not a top shelf brand.

What happened to your Ruger would make me sick. If I liked the pistol and intended to keep it Cerakote is the likely path I would take.

L.T.M. Refinishing is about 50 miles from here and will do a slide for $85 plus shipping. The have several choices of colors
I wouldn't use Larson for jack. He's dishonest. He quoted me once a 3 week turn around time. 6 weeks rolled around no response to emails or calls.

I had asked to send my stuff back if not done and refund me.

No response.

I finally called the local sherriffs department and they were familiar with Joe Larson as they'd had similar complaints before. They sent a deputy over there and got my stuff and sent it back to me.

Coca Cola will take the corrosion off battery posts . . .

Used to be a car refinishing company named "Earl Schieb", who would paint your car for $99.95. Had a customer come into the gas station with his newly painted vehicle. He spilled Coke on it and the paint immediately started peeling off.

My Ruger Max was laying on the desk and I didn't notice that some Mt Dew had spilled and the gun was laying in a puddle of it. In only about 15 minutes a large patch of the finish was gone off the side of the slide. I covered it with a sharpie until I get a chance to get the slide refinished. Ruger has a poor finish or Mt Dew is strong stuff. What is the cost of a slide refinish now days and what would be interesting and different.

If it does that to gun, think of what it must do to your innerds. That stuff is legalized poison.

ROFLMBO!!! Had forgotten about ole Earl……..You couldn't lean on his paint jobs for at least a week after he finished.

Oh yeah. Earl had a station just south of Barnes Jewish in St. Louis. Tape off the stuff you don't want panted and spray the snot out of it. I know him well . . .

Why do you say use a REAL copper penny? The new ones while not pure copper are copper clad. How hard are you using that penny??
