Model 25 .45 LC...

So I just bought one locally, a 25-5, 4" blued, pinned...No box and other than a small scuff at the muzzle it could pass for new...Target hammer, trigger and stocks...Made 1979-80...I'm still going for the one in the presentation box this weekend though...I just got home with this one, so no pics yet, maybe after I Renwax it...:D...Ben

Bull...I'll try for pics tomorrow if I can...I got it washed and waxed, but I have a full day scheduled so no promises on the pics...:o...Ben

After I typed my query, I reread your post and saw "Model 25-5", then I realized it had to be the bull barrel.

Photos will come along when they do. No rush.

Kevin

Is the -9 the cream of the crop for the Model 25? If so, do they typically fetch a higher premium over the other dashes (non commemorative)?

Thanks

Well, I got this one a few months back, and I was fortunate at 1300 shipped. A nice forum member wanted to sell it, not bleed me to death. No box, and no evidence of being fired. It is a 25-5. I would say 1400 is OK, not a steal, but not grossly overpaying You do get the presentation box( which I do not care about. They take up too much room

It looks just like the one I bought yesterday...I paid somewhat under what you paid, Pete, so I feel a little better now...I'll still try for the cased 6" this weekend...:o...Ben

Well, I have been known to overpay a few bucks for quality and condition. It all averages out. I have some steals too. The bottom line , is I got pristine, which is what I wanted. Glad you got the same:)

EDIT: where are the pics?

In the early 80's my best friend and I had 25-5's we bought used. One was a 4" and 1 was a 6", we would swap them back and forth. Using Federal 225gr HP/SWC/HB lead bulle ammo the both shot fantastic. Alas that is no longer made.

I've been known to do the same since my heart occasionally overrules my gun-buying fundage...But I too at times run across the odd bargain in my travels...Such as the 4" blued non-model marked .44 Magnum (I don't like that "pre" nomenclature) dated to 1956 which I found on a gunshow table recently, even still wearing its original cokes...The shrewd bargainer who owned it wouldn't accept a nickel under a grand for it, but once again heart won the battle over pocket, and he was happy with the $1,000 I left him...But I assure you it won't leave my grubby little paws cheaply, if ever...

EDIT: Gimme a chance willya?...I just got a coat of wax on the 25-5 and I have more mundane things to do this afternoon, like doctor appointments and shopping for groceries...:o...Ben

…This one jabs a needle in my eye .....Ben

Okay, I physically threw my head back when I read that. I gave blood every eight weeks for years, been stitched up with no novacaine and refuse morphine on principal but anything to do with the eyes causes me to flinch, recoil in fear or run in terror.

Mine has large throats. Shoots commode lid patterns at any distance with std .452" dia bullets. Went to a .454" dia bullet and sizer and all's well with the world.

Same for me. Fortunate for me the other guy didn't know that. I got an almost new in box with all paperwork 25-5 for $400 because it "wasn't accurate".

Since I handload, with .454s its now a tack driver. Funny thing those boolits now make all my other Colts run better as well....

My 25-5 with big throats is my most accurate handgun....

When I first heard about this I thought I was going to have to shoot my way out of his office, but I've been getting this done every month for the last three years...At some point they also scraped the cataracts off my eyeballs and installed new lenses in the pupils...I'm not only seeing much better, but I've also lost all fear of needles...I even stopped in at Walgreen's and got the high dose flu shot ant Pfizer Covid booster (third shot) on the way to his office today......Ben

OK, OK!...You win!...

This one did not get the full Dunkin Gunwash treatment, just a coat of Renwax since it came to me clean......Ben

Fantastic shooters and beautiful revolvers!

Mine has an 8 3/4" barrel and although I was reluctant, the price was right and it came with a presentation box that needs to be re-flocked.

Those 4" models are enticing!
