Favorite frame? (J, I, K, L, N, X)

This is a tough one. I have 3 J frames, 4 K frames, 4 N frames but only one L frame; a 4” 686-4 which is my favorite.

My 686-1 is a 4 inch too! It is perfectly balanced, and just feels right in my hands. The moment I picked mine up to hold it in my LGS I had to have it. The 4 inch 686, at least for me felt like it was made for me, I could just feel the connection holding it, so glad I bought mine!

Thanks to everyone for sharing their awesome pics by the way :) I would if I could but I don't know how to make my iPhone pictures links.

I don't have enough to compare to the others. Three K frames, K22, 10-8, and 15-3, all very nice shooters and fit my hand just right for those 2 calibers. And I have only one N frame, a 629-6, that I love to shoot the .44 Specials in. I'm still, slowly, looking for a nice stock for shooting the magnums without beating the (heck) out of my middle finger; but even at that, I can get within 4" of head or heart shots with it better than the .38 Specials from 25 yds.
BTW, stuartg74, something about that holster I really like! If I did have reason to open carry either of my .38s, I would consider one like yours. I'm not a hunter anymore and I live in the city; don't do a lot of woods walking, etc., but that would be a nice holster for me if I did.

6" Model 10 K frame was my first centerfire experience. What Dad had.
So I think that the K is the best all around size.

But I do agree that it does depend on what you are doing.
J 2" for pocket carry, 686+ 6" for bowling pins (and my 13 year old loves it). My 2" M12 will be great when I get the right grips...
My wife's 4" M13 is really nice, too...

I don't have an N frame yet (someday) and don't see a need for the X frame for me personally.

As much as I enjoy my 686, I'll admit I am on the hunt for a J frame for that exact reason. As carrying my 686 is a pain, and forget about concealing it unless I am wearing extra large or bulky clothes. Even then it is iffy :D

Yep getting a large frame to conceal well is an art all in its own

Like asking your favorite automobile….coupe, sedan, suv, truck.

Ain’t huntin with a J frame, ain’t concealing an N.

So, jack of all trades would be K.

N-Frame for paperwork. L-Frame for everything else and paperwork.

The first 22 on the list!!! I want a 22 Revolver for plinking and training my daughter when she gets a little older. Beautiful blued gun

The Mrs and the kids found the long barreled K22M difficult to hold steady and the Colt GM/45 just right.
The 6" Diamondback was a bit better for them.

Bought a 4" J frame 63-3 for the granddaughter's first birthday to share with her brother's 9422, which was for his first birthday as well.

An N in 357, long barreled, is on the list as our only 357 is the Ruger snub.

I have a J frame and some K,L and N frames. I really like the L frames for all around use and I think the .357 magnum is about all most people can handle a steady diet of. But if I could only have one I might choose my model 27 shoots great, looks better

The N frames are my sentimental favorite but I’d give a slight nod to the L frames for all around use for my purposes: plinking, self defense and general all around ranch use but I could absolutely make do with an N, L or K frame, I love them all!

Another vote for the K frame.
I carry a 2 1/2" model 66.
The perfect size Smith imho.
