Andy of Mayberry and the Beverly Hillbillies were a mainstay of my childhood years. Along with the Jetsons,of course...

I think the Beverly Hillbillies was among the funniest shows ever. The subtle humor was amazing....especially when I see shows now.
Both "Mayberry shows" were very moral and forgiving in their message. They spun off some great comedies.
Thelma Lou was the perfect mate for Barney. RIP

How can you not rank Green Acres ahead of The Beverly Hillbillies is beyond me

From the web:

WHAT DOES THE GIRL NEXT DOOR MEAN?

"The girl next door is a term used to describe a female archetype and fashion aesthetic which can range in terms of personal definition, but usually denotes a girl or woman who appeals to traditional or "all-American" gender norms with the allure of purity, simplicity, and charm, with a natural, modest, or effortless beauty."

works for me.

They put up with Barney because he had a good heart. I liked his testimony about Andy when the rich newspaper man attempted to have Andy removed as sheriff because of what Barney told the "pretty college student" who turned out to a reporter working for the newspaper man.

For me.......

You are bang on, Barney and his thinking came from the right spot, but that said he was a nut who had ego problems with higher thoughts of himself than were facts, I liked the hillbillies but green acres was never in my watching zone by the time it came out my tv time was pretty much nil, 1965, cars, work and girls along with a regular paycheck made life fun.

It wasn't exactly "Ginger" or "Mary Ann" ....but for me it was always Thelma Lou ..... and NOT Helen (Crump) . Helen was MEAN !

From Wiki ....
USO tour
When she was 17, Lynn auditioned to participate in United Service Organizations entertainment. At age 18 she was part of a USO tour in the China Burma India Theater. She realized the gravity of the situation when a Marine gave her a pistol saying, "You might need this."
Her activities on the tour included visiting patients in hospitals and singing requests from a repertoire of 725 songs.

I have enjoyed seeing her in a few movies in her early years playing a teenager. She WAS Thelma Lou ! She has always tugged on my heartstrings .
